Sluggo remembers:

As Nancy and I skipped down the hill from Mr. Freedlander's "Little House," our grins were plastered on the dahlia packaging and Nancy and I thought we'd tiptoe right through the afternoon. Suddenly Nancy stopped, "Sluggo, dahlias don't have packages, and I don't seem able to grin. What is going on?"

I tiptoed closer to Nancy and said, "Dahlias, and other flowers, are having a hard time making ends meet, so they've gone into the packaging business. I sold them our grins, so they could plaster them on their packages". Nancy realized she couldn't grin and bear this situation, just bare it. Fortunately the next day, their grins had escaped the packages, and had returned to Nancy and me."
