Chapter Twenty-Seven
***
LUKE POV
**7am, May 19th**
"I'm tired and I'm cranky, and if you fuck up I'll kill you, lets go." I say to everyone when they get on the stage.
"Joy." I hear Michael say. Michael is the one person I really can't yell at. If we're gonna fix things then I have to control my temper with him.
"We're going through the whole thing." I say to them. I let them inspect their instruments to make sure they're all set. I've already checked mine.
"Ok, first song is Beside You." Ashton says.
We start going through the songs, everything going smoothly until Catch Fire. Who knew it was so hard not to yell at people. I scuff my feet on the floor while Calum helps Michael. Ashton doesn't bother me because he knows better. I hear Calum walk back to his spot and look up.
"We good now?" I ask.
"Yeah, sorry, it's been a while." Michael says.
"No problem." I mutter.
We start again with Catch Fire, and either Michael lied or he forgot again. I can't do this. I can't not yell at him. I can't. I wish I could. Before I can turn around and snap Ashton's arms wrap around me. I forget what I was gonna do now.
"You're doing really good, take a couple deep breaths while he figures it out." Ash whispers to me. I do as told and breathe evenly and slowly. He rubs my arm, helping me relax. I hear Michael play it and pull out of Ashton's arms to face him.
"That, keep doing that." I say to Michael. He blushes out of embarrassment and nods. Ashton returns to his drums and we start over once again.
We get through Catch Fire and continue on with the set list. We hit yet another bump in the road at San Francisco. Except it's me. Well, Ash too, but mostly me. The one person I get the mad at the most is myself.
"Someone help me before I punch something." I finally say. Michael comes over to me and tries to help me. Maybe Michael wasn't the best choice. Not that I chose.
"I'm trying really hard not to yell at you, but this isn't working, so please walk away before I yell at you." I say to Michael through gritted teeth. Michael doesn't argue with me, smart choice, and walks away.
I let my guitar go so it hangs off my body, and shake out my hands. There is only one thing I can do that won't cause too much harm. I unplug my guitar, move it against my back, and walk over to Ash.
"Can you help me?" I ask him.
"Holy shit. Sorry." I hear Michael say. I ignore him and wait for an answer from Ash.
"I mean, I can try." Ashton says. Ashton is the one person I'm not afraid to yell at because he understands. He follows me back to my spot and I pull my guitar around and plug it back in. These wires are a pain in the ass, I'm glad we don't use them for the shows.
"You're lucky I know this song on guitar." Ash says to me. Ash stands somewhat behind me, wraps his arms around me, and moves my hand to the right spot.
"Oh my god I'm an idiot." I say aloud.
"Don't laugh Michael or I will smack you, not him." Calum says immediately after.
"Lets hear it then." Ash lets go of me. I start playing the proper chords, feeling dumb for not remembering them before.
"See, you got it. You aren't an idiot, it's just been a while." Ash squeezes my shoulder. He goes back to his drums now flashing me a smile. A few people from the crew come put the wireless devices on our guitars now that they're ready.
