“Mom!” I whined. “I don’t want to go to the dance."

“Of course you do, Ellen. All your friends are going, they’ll be disappointed if you don’t go.”

“But they’ve all got dates!”

“You would have had a date if you didn’t say no to all of those boys, Ellen.”

“How did you know people asked me?” I replied, looking out of the window as other cars passed by, even though we were in the fast lane.

“Vicky told me Saturday night when all the girls were over. Come on, Ellen. Cheer up. It’ll be fun.” I shot a look at her and saw her purse her lips – but she didn’t take her eyes off the road at any point. “Why didn’t you say yes to any of them?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know. They’re all immature, ugly and have no manners.”

“Beggars can’t be choosers, Ellen.”

“I didn’t beg anyone!”

“Then stubborn girls can’t be picky.”

“That wasn’t funny.” I sighed. I was annoyed and nervous. Walking into the school dance by myself would be humiliating. I just wanted it to be over already.

Fidgeting, I looked in the mirror on the thing that blocks the sun when you’re driving – urgh, I don’t know its name – anyway, I was looking in that at my outfit to check I looked okay, but I didn’t pull it down far enough so the mirror wasn’t actually on my angle, it was so I was looking at the back seat. I was about to move it when suddenly a pair of Amber coloured eyes stopped me. Their eyes were so bright but I couldn’t see who they belonged to. The person’s body was only a silhouette. My palms began sweaty as I stared at the eyes, my mouth becoming dry. I closed my eyes, with a sigh and snapped them open again. But the eyes were gone. The person was gone.

What am I talking about?

Gone.

They weren’t here in the first place, it was my imagination.

“Ellen, honey, are you okay?”

I was surprised by my own imagination. “Yes, mom, I’m fine.”

“Okay darling.”

I pulled on the mirror again, this time so I could see myself. I looked okay. Okay, fine, I looked more than okay. I just I looked pretty. I had deep, bright green eyes, and long brown hair. My mother made me wear eyeliner as well whereas I would just have preferred my normal routine of wearing mascara and foundation.

My mom pulled up outside the busy school and I grimaced. Why couldn’t this night be over already!?

“Here you go, honey. Have a good time.”

I opened the door and began to step out of the car. “Yes mom.”

My foot hit the ground and then I swung my other leg so I could easily get out of the car. I left the door open as I flattened out my dress.

I was skinny, which was a good thing because the dress Vicky picked out for me was long, and tight in ‘the right places’ as she said. Basically it made my bum look nice and my boobs look big. It was green – to go with my eyes and instead of straps I had a halter-neck.

“Ellen! Watch–” My mom shouted. I looked up to see what she was shouting about but nearly toppled over as someone’s hard chest walked into me. “Out…” I heard my mom finish.

Rubbing my nose, I looked up to see who’d walked into me and for a moment, all I saw was reddish-blond hair, cutely sticking out in placed. I rattled my brain to try and remember if any of the kids in my class – or even school – had his hair colour but then he looked up a little more and his hair fell out of the way of his eyes, showing Amber eyes – amusement dancing behind the irises. I gasped in shock at the fact that I imagined him in my car and also the fact that he was stunningly beautiful with his perfectly shaped face, beautiful eyes and lovely hair.

“Hello, Ellen.”
