14.FAMOUS LAST WORDS

  Just another sleepless night for Frank. He had been like that for more than a week but his lack of sleep wasn't what actually worried him.

His mind constantly replayed the moment where, once the classes had finished, he had come back to the park to find Gerard just to find out he wasn't there. Desperate, he had walked the whole town trying to find just a little clue of his whereabouts. Where had the vampire gone?

With some optimism left on his heart, he put his faith on the fact that Gerard visited him that night which didn't happen. It stayed the same the following sleepless and waiting night. Same with next one.

  "I'm sure he's okay.", "He just came back to his cave before I got there." Frank tried to convince himself. And, even though he wasn't that wrong, the weight of that worry remained in his chest.

Because he actually really had reasons to be worried.

∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆

  "Here you have your dose of blood." Synna gave him a bag which contained that red liquid he would feed on.

"How long will I have to stay here? Wasn't it dsngerous to get human blood excessively and not just for their own consumption?"

"You made a huge mistake, Gerard, and you hadn't eaten for so many nights, are you finally telling me why?"

Synna, the headwoman of his clan, knew that Gerard had spent many nights out but without eating. That day when she saw he didn't come back in the morning she got worried and her suspicions increased. Even so, she had no idea about the details and reasons that had made the young vampire commit such those unhealthy actions.

"You won't be able to go out for the next three moons but if you don't tell it to me now I'm going to prolong your punishment one month". The vampiress pointed to him. "TELL ME NOW!"

Gerard got scared of that scream. If he didn't tell it to her he couldn't get out of that cave in another month and that also meant he wouldn't see Frank. He missed him and he was probably really worried about him. At the end of the day, he had disappeared waiting for him to come back from his classes.

On the other hand, it was very risky to tell the truth. What would they do? They'd probably vanish him. And then, what would he do? He didn't know any other and clan who would be willing to welcome him nearby. Also, he could always resort to that plan he had been resisting all that time...

But he couldn't keep lying. He swore he was going to confess for Frank and for him. It didn't matter what happened later, it didn't make sense to keep going with that.

"I've been visiting somebody." He finally said trying to make his voice sound as calm as possible.

"Somebody? Who? Gerard, you haven't fallen in love, have you?"

But the young vampire couldn't keep it anymore. He admited he loved a boy he had spent all those nights with. But what got the handwoman of th clan more angry was that, in addition, he had alreay been a victim of him.

"Feelings are dangerous, Frank, or have you forgotten that the reason why we are here is that we were destroyed by them? A vampire who feels is a threat to the other ones! They don't act for the good of the clan, they let themselves go by stupidities that, as you have been able to observe, end up damaging their own welfare! That boy knows we exist now! Are you aware of the threat it means?"

Gerard had tears on his eyes, he couldn't take it anymore.

"BUT I LOVE HIM! I LOVE HIM, I LOVE HIM, I LOVE HIM!" he exploded desperately. "And not even you are going to take that from me!"

"It's over", he thought. He had to get out of there. He ran to the cave's entrance and he jump to then become the only flying mammal in the world to furrow the sky under the sun.

"You're vanished, don't you there to come back!" it was the last thing Gerard heared. He couldn't help but smile.

Those famous last words he had always feared to recieve would be reminded as the hymn which had announced his freedom for first time to him.
