Meanwhile...
I sat down with a bag of chips and turned on the Tv. Everett burst through the door, scaring me and making me spill the majority of my chips all over the floor.
“Reuben," he said breathlessly. “He's out."
“Wait, slow down. Who's out? Out of where?"
“Owen. He's out of jail. And he's already killed someone."
“WHAT?!?" I hollered, jumping up from my seat. My head felt dizzy so I sat back down, trying to calm my jittery nerves.
“I heard on the news that they found a body in an abandoned opera house. The man was tied up to a chair. Owen's D.N.A. was all over the crime scene. But they haven't found the weapon. They say the man was stabbed." Everett babbled, pacing the floor.
“You know what we have to do." I told Everett, looking him dead in the eye.
“We have to go find him before he hurts anyone else." Everett rolled his eyes.
“Reuben, you know Uncle Owen only listens to Janet. He'll never take advice from us." Everett said shaking his head. But I was determined to stop him. I started packing a back pack full of stuff.
“What are you doing?" Everett asked, raising his eyebrows.
“I'm going to find Owen and put him in his right mind."
“And if you can't?" Everett challenged.
“I'll turn him over to the police." I continued packing the bag, ignoring the doubt I heard in Everett's voice. I threw in some tee-shirts and stocked up on granola bars. I looked up at Everett expectantly.
“What are you waiting for? Aren't you gonna pack?"
“Are you crazy? I'm not going anywhere." He parked his bottom on the couch stubbornly. I shrugged.
“Fine by me. But he's your uncle, just saying." I pulled on my hiking boots and snatched up my keys to my RV. I waltzed out the door and didn't look back.-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This chapter is from Reuben's point of view. Reuben is a new character who'll play a big part in the story! Do you remember Everett from a few chapters ago? ;)
**The next chapter will be back to Anova's point of view. :-) Pic of Anova on the right!
