He didn't think much of it at first. At the time, he thought he understood it quite well. They needed some time apart, some time to themselves. As much as they loved each other, sometimes they needed a break from their other.
(Maybe he was starting to get overbearing and protective? Should he try to tone it down a bit?)
So he took the chance to meet up with his friends, chat up with old acquaintances, and generally have a good time without his love.
(He thought he'd been doing fine but sometimes he'd feel like there was something missing. Like there was an agonizing pain in chest where his heart was.
He had ignored it though, because this was for his love as much as it was for him.)
When he came back to their home, the lights were off and it was oddly quiet. He assumed that maybe his love was asleep or hadn't come home yet. He went to the kitchen. Milk always did help him get to sleep.
There was a note on the table. Curious, he picked it up and read. It was addressed to him, anyway.
The piece of paper slipped from his already wavering grip as tears fell from eyes.
"You were able to manage one day without me... Now, you need to continue that for the rest of your life. I'm sorry I never told you, but I thought that maybe if I did it like this...it wouldn't hurt you as much. Maybe this way, you'll move on from me quicker...
Just keep living, enjoy life to the fullest. I wouldn't want you to be sad because of me afterall!"

He didn't even need to be here, at Hogwarts, at all now did he? He's just extra baggage, just more money being wasted for nothing. Maybe he should have told Mum that he'd rather not go. He'd just help with chores and the like.
At least he won't be a burden if he did that.
(-wasn't gonna be as great as Bill and Charlie, be perfect like Percy, be as fun and likeable as Fred and George, and won't be able to compare to Ginny, so what's the bloody point-)
