Title: to heaven, i fall (but straight through the ground)

Summary: Miyo dreams of falling, and somehow it hurts.

-probably post-canon, i dont really know, i just got the word "falling" stuck in my head all day and i had to get it out

-I wanna draw for this now, actually, maybe later, might be good for perspective practice

-no editing, i die like a coward lmao

Sometimes Miyo dreams.

She dreams and feels the sensation of falling. Wind whipping her hair and harshly pushing against her body. Gravity pulling her ever closer to the ground.

A monsterous shriek pierces the sky and Miyo remembers. The Soul Tree is dead. The materion corrupted. The artifacts found. And, and-

She's still falling, falling, falling-

"Gai." The name like a prayer on her lips. He always caught her. He always did. Whenever she would fall, she could always count on him to catch her and get her back on her feet.

Gai would come and together, they would rise, rise, rise-

Miyo turned and faced forward-

A single spot of blue hidden among the red and Miyo held back a scream.

But this time, Gai wasn't behind her. This time, they weren't covering each other's backs. This time, they weren't in sync.

This time, Gai was in front of her and she couldn't do a thing.

"No!" The cry unbidden from her lips, desperately reaching out to the one person she wanted to save-

But Gai was just staring at her with wide eyes, letting gravity take him away from her and Miyo hates -hates- that she can't even return the favor-

He saved her so many times, she had to save him just as much. She had to, she had to-!

But they were still falling, falling, falling-

A pillar of red erupted just below them and a piercing cry escapes her throat.

"GAI!"

And Gai was falling, falling, falling-

(He's staring at her so fondly that it made her sick. She didn't deserve him.)

-into the red light-

(He says something, hoping that the wind will carry his words to her.

And it does.)

-and she can't-

(It does and it breaks her.)

She can't save him.

("I love you.")

Miyo sits up in bed, breathing heavily and clutching her sheets all too tightly in her paws.

'Was it...' The images fade from her memory, and never had Miyo hated that she couldn't peer into her own memories right until this moment.

(she wants to see-)

'That dream again?' She thinks, loose pink hair cascading down her shoulders. She could never remember what it was about, other than the fact that she was falling

(-to see him safe, to see him breathing, to see him smile-)

And always -always- after the dream, she would be left with a storm of emotions swirling inside her and the burning desire to see her friend.

(-to see Gai-)

Miyo supposed she'd call him tomorrow. Just...Just to check how he was doing, right? There was nothing wrong with keeping up with a... with a friend.

(-would bring her nothing but utter joy and relief.)
