Prompt: Zombie Apocalypse AULauren's POV
I wiped down the dirt from my face and sighed. With a machete in one hand, I twirled it mindlessly while walking through the deserted streets of what used to be Los Angeles. I brought my hand back to my face to remove the access dirt and wipe it on my pants. Looking down at my outfit, I shook my head. I was wearing an oversized blue and black flannel matched with dark green pants, and white converse. Well now, they're more black than white. The same clothes I had on when chaos started. 'Next stop. Clothing store.' I thought.
I hummed quietly. One hand still twirling the bloody machete and one grabbing onto the straps of my backpack. Couple of snacks, first aid kit, and 3 water bottles left is all I have. It could last me a week and a half or so, but I've got to look for more if I want to make it for the next 2 weeks or so. I looked ahead and saw what seemed to be a line of stores, but they all seemed to be raided. I decided to go and check them out because there's got to be something useful there that people have left behind.
I stopped playing with my weapon and held it in position as I made my way to the first store. Slowly, I crept inside the broken window and was met with a bunch of empty shelves. Walking through the aisles, I smiled when I spotted some candy. But not just any candy, red vines. "Why would anyone leave these behind?" I muttered and happily grabbed the pack of delicious vines. I took one vine and shoved the rest in my backpack chewing slowly to try savoring the taste.
I searched through the store once more and ended up with a few fruit bars and a few cans of soup which I will cook that later on. I made my way to the window and gingerly climbed out. Landing safely, I looked up and made sure no creatures were close. I could only make out a couple of moving corpse far from here, do I didn't have anything to worry about.
I made my way to the next store and starting to search. "Thank god" I let out a sigh of relief when I spotted the most essential item. Tampons. What? A girl has problems even during a situation like this. It doesn't stop once tragedy hits. Which I wish it did.
I made my way to the last aisle and spotted a few knocked down water bottles. Just my luck. I bent down to pick them up and stuffed it in my backpack. Just as I was about to stand up, I heard something from behind the cashier. I flinched at the sudden sound. I tighten my grip on the machete and slowly made my way towards the sound. More rustles could be heard.
"Come out and I won't hurt you." I strongly let out with the machete guarding my face. "Should I ring the water bottles and tampons up? Is that what you want?" I joked shaking my head at myself. I furrowed my eyebrows as I heard whimpering. "Hey now. It's okay I won't hurt you. Just...just show yourself." I soften my voice. As I was about to make a quick move to the stubborn person, they stood up slowly with their hands up. A gaunt looking 18 year old girl with a backpack on her shoulders stared right back at me.
I blinked in surprise at how beautiful the stranger was even if she was covered in dirt and ragged clothes. "Are you okay?" I carefully asked slightly lowering down my weapon. "P-please don't hurt me." The girl whimpered. "I won't hurt you. I promise. What's your name?" I whispered and lowered my weapon so it was by my side. "I'm Lucy" The girl introduced in such low manner that I almost couldn't hear her. "Hi Lucy. I'm Lauren. I'm going to come closer okay? I'm going to check if you're hurt." I explained carefully as I made my way towards her.
"N-NO" She yelped flinching away. "Shh. I won't hurt you. Are you with anyone?" I sighed and asked stopping. "My dad told me to stay here." She looked down fiddling with her backpack straps. "When did he tell you that?" "About 2 weeks ago." She shrugged. My eyes widened. "You've been alone for that long?! Alive" I said shocked. She shrugged. I sighed and said, "Okay, I'm going to come closer okay? I promise. I have some red vines with me. You want some?" I coaxed continuing my way to her.
