26| Old friend

Cain's POV

I was nervous as I parked in the spot where it was marked 'CEO'. When I was younger, I would always be here at my parents company after school. My dad wanted me to take his place as CEO when I got older, so he showed me everything there is to know about the company. Too bad for him, I wanted to study something else.

I suppose my dad was upset because I wasn't going to take his place, but he still gave me all his support when I told him I wanted to be a civil engineer. I also gave a little nudge to John so he can convince my dad to let me study engineering.

I made sure my suit was nice and clean and then walked in through the front. There were lots of people going in and coming out of the elevators.

I got in an elevator and pushed the button that was going to take me to the top floor. It took less than five minutes to reach the top.

"Mr. Westbrooke! What a pleasure to see you! My, you have grown into a fine young man." I saw Mindy, my dad's secretary.

I smiled widely at her. "Hey, Mindy. You haven't aged a bit."

"Oh, stop it. You're making me blush." She scoffed and fixed her glasses.

"Anyway, how's your father? We're very worried about him?" She continued.

"He's so much better now. He just needs lots of rest and that's why I'm here, to fill in for him while he's gone." I told her.

"I'll be happy to help you with anything you need." She got up and went inside my dad's office.

I followed her in. "Thank you, Mindy. I appreciate it."

She gave me a quick summary of what has been going on in the company and I have to say I'm impressed with my dad's work here.

"I'll let you get to work." She smiled at me as she headed out the door.

I sat down in my dad's chair and let a huge breath of air. I closed my eyes for a second and then my phone started to ring.

"Hey, beautiful."

Aria let out a nervous chuckle. "Hi, handsome."

"Did you have trouble finding the office?" I asked her.

"No trouble at all. Are we having lunch together?"

"Yea, I'll be there around one." I clarified.

"Alright. See you soon."

I hung up and started my dad's computer. I caught up on all the deals he made and what else he was looking into.

"Hey." I went behind Aria and placed my hands on her waist.

She jumped a little. "Cain, you scared me."

She turned to face me and kissed my lips. Kissing her still feels surreal.

We walked to a pizza place that was close by and got our food.

"How was your first day?" She asked, taking a bite of her pizza.

"Great. Got a lot of looks from the employees. They don't remember me I guess." I responded.

"Did you find another engineer to replace me." I asked.

She smirked at me. "John and I have found a couple replacements and might I say, they are incredibly handsome."

"Don't play like that, Aria." I sternly said.

"I'm kidding." She laughed and rubbed my arm.

After we finished, we walked back to the office, hand in hand. As we were on the floor where my office was at, a lot of the employees were looking at us.
