She left him standing by the doorway, shocked and mortified because he knew that he just offended a student - a beautiful one, at that.

He turns around and walks back to his desk, his head looking down and full of shame. He flicks through the test papers in front of him, to try and distract himself from what happened. However, he passes through her test paper, and he couldn't resist checking through it.

He goes through her answers and sees that she got all of them right. He shakes his head, aware that he really blew it. He gets up and looks left to right, outside the doorway. It was his last class, but the school day was yet to finish.

Mr. F found himself running to the admin's office. He scans the room and looks for a person that could help him. He sees her tapping away on her computer, wearing glasses and an angry frown across her face.

"Gloria! Ang aking favorite admin!" he exclaims with his arms wide open.

Before he could come any closer, the middle-aged lady places her hand in front of his face, her eyes still glued to her screen and her other hand furiously typing.

"Ano nananaman ang kailangan mo sa akin, Tisoy?"

"Eto namang si Gloria, o. May kailangan agad?" he asks with his boy-next-door smile.

"Hindi mo ako makukuha sa pag-papacute mo, Faulkerson. Hindi ako kagaya ng ibang malalandi diyan," she says as she increases her volume when she said the last two words, intending for everyone to hear.

"Ok, fine. Nahuli mo na ako," he says raising both of his hands, in defeat.

She stops typing, finally faces him, and places her hands on her lap.

"O, ano nga?"

"You have access to all the students', files right?"

She nods.

"Kaya mong tingnan 'yong timetables nila, right?"

She nods once more.

"Can you please see for me, kung nasaan ngayon si Ms. Nicomaine Dei C. Mendoza?"

"At bakit ko naman 'yon gagawin para sa'yo?" she asks as she leans back on her chair, and raises her glasses to her head.

He lets out a defeated sigh before speaking again.

"May atraso kasi ako sa bata. Hinusgahan ko siya agad-agad. Kaya ayun nagalit sa akin. She thinks that I think na tanga siya...which hindi naman totoo. Kaya please, tulungan mo ako para itama ang mali ko."

He looks her straight in the eye, and levels them with her, as he tries to convince her with his puppy-dog eyes. He sees her eyes soften at the sigh of this and it suddenly boosted his confidence. He was about to raise back up when she was quick to grab her tie.

"Edi, magdusa ka," she says and gives him a gentle push.

"Wait, wait, wait. Hear me out here, Gloria! Sige na."

"Tutulungan na sana kita, eh nalaman kong may atraso ka pala kay Meng."

"Meng?"

"Oo. Meng ang tawag ko diyan sa student mong 'yan."

"Ahhhh."

"'Alaga' ko 'yon. And knowing her, kailangan niya ng space from you right now, kaya niya 'yon ginawa. Plus, I won't make it easy for you, Tisoy."

She turns back to her computer, and he couldn't help but think that he is now defeated.

He walks out of the gates, with his messenger bag slung over his shoulder. The sun was setting but it was still able to shed enough light on the streets. He continues walking, when he suddenly caught sight of her.

"Ms. Mendoza," he says to himself.

She was currently seated on the curb, holding a stick in her hand and playing with the dirt on the sidewalk. She had a frown on her face, and her eyes were glistening as it started to pool. He decides to walk over to her.

"Ms. Mendoza?"

She raises her head to see who it was, and she quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. She wipes this on her skirt, and instantly rises up on her feet. She crosses her arms, and glares at him.

"Ok ka lang ba?" he says, as he once again fixes his glasses.

"Mukha ba akong ok? Sa ginawa mong kahihiyan sa akin kanina, magiging ok ako?"

"I'm...really sorry, Ms. Mendoza. I was quick to judge you. Eto nga pala, test paper mo," he apologizes, as he flails the paper in front of her.

She takes it from him, and scans it over.

"You did great," he shyly expresses.

She was outraged by this, so she scrunches the paper in her hand and shoves it against his chest.

"So, is this your confirmation na hindi ako tanga? I'm not defined by my grades, Sir. No one is. Hinusgahan mo ang isang tao, agad-agad, tapos kailangan mo pa ng confirmation? What, to make sure that you made a mistake? To make sure that you weren't going to apologize for nothing?"

"Ms. Mendoza, I didn't mean t-"

"No, Sir, I've had enough."

-

"Grabe, Mendoza. Mga pinagdaanan natin 'no?" he sniggers over his spoon, full of rice and chicken.

"Sir, naman, parang ang dami nating pinagdaanan."

He laughs and she couldn't help but start to gaze at him. How his dimple always deepened when he was genuinely happy. How his eyes squinted, as well. She's memorised all of this in the past few weeks. He continues to throw his head back, and she doesn't understand why, as she was being serious with her answer.

"I love you...Sir," she says with hopeful eyes.

He stops laughing, blinking his eyes a few times to make sure that she actually said it.

"Ms. Mendoza, you love the idea of me, but you are not in love with me," he chuckles.

"So, ganoon ka na lang lagi? Lagi mo na lang akong uunahan? How dare you declare how I feel? How dare you assume that? Nilantad ko na sa'yo ang nararamdaman ko."

She leaves again. But this time, he lets her go. He knows full well that he feels the same way about her, but he won't be able to do anything about it.
