It was only the flicking of her pen that was breaking the cold air of silence in the room. She did it every time she felt nervous.

"Go out with me," he blurted out after almost five minutes of attempting to take the information in.

"I'm sorry?" she asks with eyes wide open, the pen shooting up in the air as she was taken aback by his words.

"Go out with me...Doc Mendoza," he repeated and paused to look at the placard in front of him.

"S-Sandali, Alden, naririnig mo ba ang sarili mo?" she answered, closing her eyes and shaking her head upon his surprising request.

"Go out with me. Mamamatay na ako diba?" he persuaded gently with tears falling down his eyes. "Mamamatay na ako, so you can at least give me that," he continued, with his voice shaking.

She only stares at him, and he sees the evident confusion that his words caused her to feel. She felt pity for him, but remembered that if she showed her weakness as a doctor, her patient will only lose hope.

"Alden, hindi pa natin alam kung anong stage ang cancer mo," she proceeds to say after garnering as much strength as she could.

"Pero doon din naman 'to papunta diba?" Alden acknowledges, and looks up towards her. "You're gonna do a few more tests, then we're gonna find out that it's too late. That I only have a few more months to live."

"'Wag kang magisip ng ganiyan," she said plainly and stood to pick up her pen. "I'll schedule you for an MRI, and a CT scan," she says as soon as she sat down.

"While you're at it, you can probably schedule a date in there as well," he says as he placed an elbow on her desk, resting his chin on his fist.

"How are you taking this so well?"

He shrugs his shoulder as a reply.

"Don't you have like...plans?"

"I plan to take you out. Siguro, 'yon na lang ang huling hiling ko."

"Smooth. Very persistent," she recognizes as she taps away on her computer. "When are you free Mr. Faulkerson?"

"Free? Bukas? The day after that? Wait, I know how busy these scans can get. When's the next availab-"

"I'm not talking about the scans, Alden," she interrupts with a sly smile.
