Without Words

A/N: Based on MaiChard's joke on Bulagaan, where Maine was a Doctor and Alden was a patient.

His trip was a blast. He had just come back from a three month long vacation around Asia, his last stop being Seoul. However, it was his trip to Oita a few weeks back that he couldn't seem to forget. Why, exactly? Well, it was all because of a beautiful woman that he met as he finished up his day at the Kurokawa onsen. 

He was walking out of the premises when a petite woman wearing a blush kimono caught his attention. She was stripped of make-up, her hair up in a bun, her skin still steaming as it was exposed to the cold air. She caught him staring but he wasn't fazed by this as he continued to bore his eyes into hers. He then started to approach her. He stops right in front of her, and smiles.

"Hi," he addresses. 

Alden was expecting a reply however, to this he got a whole load of hand motions. He furrows his brows in confusion. 

"Oh, I'm sorry, are you?"

She waves her hands in front of her as she shook her head to signal, no.

"Then why are you?"

She then motions her hands as if she was holding a mic, and moves her mouth in an animated way.

"Ooooh, I think I get it," he answers with a chuckle. "Too much karaoke?" he proceeded to ask. 

To this he was replied with continuous nods, and a big smile. 

They proceeded to have lunch, and take a quiet stroll around the park. Even though she wasn't able to use her voice, Alden still found her the most mesmerising, and most interesting person he has ever laid his eyes on. Alden talked about the experiences on his trip as the woman's big doe eyes lit up upon every word that she heard. 

They bid their goodbyes, with him giving her a peck on the cheek. And since then, all he has been thinking about is why he didn't make her write her name, or why he didn't ask if he could add her on Facebook. 

And now he is back to reality in the Philippines, as he is standing face to face with the hospital building. You see, he's been experiencing chest pains before he even took the long trip. They took some tests before he went, and now, with perfect timing he has been contacted to come into the hospital as soon as possible as his results are in. Of course, with all of the good things that he's experienced, worrying was the last thing on his mind. 

He enters the building and is directed by the receptionist to take his seat. He waits a few more minutes before a nurse approaches him. 

"Mr. Faulkerson? Doctora will see you now."

Alden nods and proceeds to following the nurse into one of the rooms. The nurse knocks and is acknowledge by the doctor inside.

"Come in," the voice on the other side says gently.

Alden opens the door and is greeted by the bright light inside the room. As soon as his eyes adjusted, he focuses in on the figure that was sitting behind the desk, looking as if she was thoroughly examining a piece of important document. She had her hair up in a bun, and was wearing a red dress under her white doctor's coat. She raises her head, and he sees a familiar big smile on her face. This quickly goes away, though, upon the realisation that she just had. 

"You're her," Alden addressed. 

"And you're him," she says tenderly. 

She then looks down on the ground, scrunching her nose and shaking her head lightly. Alden couldn't believe that he has finally seen her again. He never knew that this day would come as he didn't even know anything about her.

"Uh, please, Mr...Faulkerson. Have a seat."

"You know, I haven't stopped thinking about you," he says excitedly, as he sat on the opposite side of her desk. 

"Mr. Faulkerson."

"Please, call me Alden."

"Alden, we need to discuss your results."

"Why is everyone making it sound so serious?" he asks in bewilderment. 

"Because it is serious, Alden."

"Anong ibig mong sabihin?"

"Alden...may cancer ka."

And just like that, all of the plans he had for the future was shattered.
