The lake was about five times wider than the pond and three times longer. There was an open field that surrounded the lake, no trees or bushes. Jack watched as Elsa’s eyes light up with enjoyment. Her blue eyes burned bright orange, as she smiled widely.

She started to twirl around, her arms out and her feet pacing back and forth. She threw her head back, letting the silky locks of her hair fall down to her feet.

“This is so wonderful!” She said almost screaming.

Her charcoal black shoes smoldered against the winter grass, crushing the plants beneath her strength. He started laughing with her, watching her eyes squint and wrinkle at the ends when she smiled.

She tripped over her own foot, falling backwards clumsily. Jack rushed over behind her, straddling her in his arms. She looked up at him, speechless. Her mouth was opened in an “o” shape and her eyes were wide with amazement. He pushed her back up, holding her by the waist.

She still didn’t say anything; all she did was fumble with her thumbs trying to breathe. It was hard breathing next to him, she felt her heart getting compressed and smaller. It felt like the inside of her stomach was being tickled with the tip of a feather. She was completely flustered.

“I’ve been meaning to tell you something,” Jack said looking away from her.

He walked directly in front of her so all she could look at were his electrifying blue eyes shining with passion. He pulled down his sleeves, a normal habit he did when he was nervous. She bit down on her lip, feeling the blood rush to her cheeks before he even let out a word.

Time seemed to slow down, and the sun seemed to only be shining on them. The grass stopped swaying and the wind stopped blowing. Everything didn’t feel like it mattered anymore. It felt like it was only the two of them on this planet. He held out his hands, grabbing both of hers. Her soft and small palms laid perfectly in his. He dipped his head down and let out a big sigh, his breath freezing in the air.

Jack swiftly leaned in and in one move, kissed Elsa. He pulled away from her as she stared at him.

“What would you do, if I told you I loved you?” Jack asked softly.

            Elsa’s eyes widened.

“It doesn’t matter if you accept my feelings or not, I’ll always be by your side.” Jack walked away.

Elsa stiffened, she froze. All she could do was look at the back of his jacket. Wrinkles started to smooth out, when he relaxed his shoulders.

“You’re not saying anything; does that mean you don’t return my feelings?” He asked, his voice breaking at several words.

She didn’t know what to say. She didn’t know how to tell him how she felt when she didn’t even know her feelings herself. Her heart was racing now. She tried to gather her words and form a sentence but she couldn’t.

I love you Jack, she screamed in her mind.

But her mouth wouldn’t move and her tongue wouldn’t budge. She just stood there watching hopelessly behind him. Her throat felt like it was burning up, and she swore she felt her lungs compressing. He stood there for a few more minutes before walking away again.

She didn’t chase after him, not because she didn’t want to but because her legs weren’t wanting to.

She didn’t tell him she loves him too, not because she didn’t but because her heart was confused.

“Thought so,” Jack said in a small voice.

He left her alone in the cold winter, she was staring at him but he was facing the other direction.

He never turned around once to watch her heart shatter into a million pieces.
