The Moment

Nightfall is here. My thoughts and emotions get the best of me because tears of desperation begin to blur my vision. Feeling the need to capture the source, I pick up my pen and notebook that I've been writing in since this all began a few months ago. Soon, words are seamlessly flowing from the tip of my pen, denoting everything left in me. She still hasn't come back to me. How much longer is this going to take? I have so much I want to tell her and there is so much history left to be made. I've made a promise to you night after night and I intend on keeping it. My dear, we'll be together till we're gray and old. No mind of man, no circumstance, no force against us can keep us apart for what we have is something everlasting, timeless, and unbreakable.

Feeling more at ease, I close up my notebook and enhance my fingers in between hers. "Emily, we're so close. Just please, give me a sign that you're waking up." I stare desperately at her motionless body just aching for something to happen. Nothing... Still so still...Then, I feel a few fingers ever so gently squeeze my hand. An audible gasp escapes my mouth. Did that just happen?? Did I just imagine her doing that?? "Baby, can you hear me? If so, squeeze my hand again," I say with ever-growing haste. I must have been too loud because a nurse came into the room when in response, Emily squeezed my hand once more. "Ma'am! Did you see that? She's waking up! Please, tell the doctor!" I say before I can't contain myself any longer and kiss Em on her forehead. I tear myself away from her, for only a minute, just so I can send out a mass text to the girls telling them to come ASAP.

Within 15 minutes all the girls and Emily's doctor arrive. The doctor begins assessing her, shining a light in her eyes, and trying to see if she's officially waking up. Then, by a miracle from God, my other half opens her eyes. I can't help but rush to her side, grab her hand, and explode with tears of joy. All the girls are crying too and huddling around the hospital bed. "Emily... baby... hi, it's me. Oh my gosh I'm so happy you're awake" I exclaim. "Emily, can you hear us? See us? Can you tell where you are," asked the doctor. Emily looked around at all of us with this horrible, frightened look on her face. "I can see you and hear you. I'm in a hospital. But....." she says with a long pause looking at us, "Who are all of you?"
