You were standing in the freezing cold clutching your Beater's bat. You had thought long hard about weather to play Chaser or Beater, George had eventually told you to 'Follow in his and Fred's footsteps.' They were both in the stands now, George admittedly looking more enthusiastic then Fred. Everyone had numbers on their backs, yours was five as the first beater trying out. Flint came strutting out with his unsettling, lopsided smile taking in all the hopeful players.

"Right, we have a good turn out this year, and our first girl,"
Everyone turned to you, but you stayed blank faced and silent,
"not all of you can become a player so I have had you split into two teams. You will play each other and I'll choose who makes it."
With that he kicked off and you had a glimpse of Snape and Hooch sitting, watching with interest. The two teams took their places, Marcus released the balls and yelled to start the game.

You were one of the first to kick off and ,unlike most people who went crazy and off in all directions, waited in the center of the pitch for the appropriate moment. After a second you decided to follow the strongest Chaser. You closely tailed their triangle formation and watched for the Bludger. It suddenly erupted out of seemingly no where and streamed toward your teams Chasers. You veered off from tailing and lent forward for an extra spurt of speed  swinging your bat and hitting the ball with a crack. The twins yelled loudly, you weren't sure what they shouted, but it sounded encouraging. The Bludger went racing into the opponents attacking triangle and hit one of the Chasers squarely in the stomach. Your Chasers payed no attention and carried on to score. The Keeper making a very poor attempt to save it, but the team scored twenty points.

The rest of the game went on pretty much the same, with your partnered Beater doing nothing and the other two on the other side arguing and hitting each other with their bats.

At last Marcus called everyone back to the ground and this time Snape and Madam Hooch were with him. Snape had his usual 'judging you whilst looking down my nose' expression and Madam Hootch was trying to look encouraging.
"So, most of you were dreadful and couldn't even catch a ball on the ground let alone on a broom."
There was an awkward, slightly uncomfortable silence, Madam Hooch cleared her throat loudly and shot Marcus a look.
"However, after talking to Professor Snape and Madam Hootch we have been able to decide on a decent team that I can whip into shape this season."
He looked at Snape and nodded.
"Montague, Warren and Myself as Chasers. Bletchly as Keeper, Derrick and Munford, Beaters and Malfoy as Seeker. Everyone else, leave."
Flint said coldly.
"Always have another try next year."
Hootch said cheerily, ushering everyone else off the pitch. You felt a wave of relief wash over you as Marcus said your name. Fred and George had gone from the stands and you could hear them thundering down the wooden steps. You stepped forward,
"Malfoy didn't even play, he just watched with you!" Flint took a step forward, becoming level with you.
"Yeah well we're getting new brooms as a gift from Draco's Father."
Your eyes shone brightly at the thought of a free, new broom.
"For the whole team?" Marcus nodded. So did you.

"Ok, everyone get some rest, we start practice at 9Am Saturday here, on the pitch." Everyone left and George came shooting out and picked you up hugging you. After a second Fred joined in an you untangled yourselves.
"Well done, you were so good!" George laughed.
"Yeah, now we can finally settle it. Out on the pitch." Fred said with mock seriousness. You laughed and picked your broom up heading for the changing rooms.
