•Callie's POV•

It was the last week of school before Christmas break this week, which was great because then I could solely focus on the hunters.

School was still important, and I was keeping up just fine, but I did have to put my priorities in check right now, which was the pack.

The phone was ringing on the other end as I called mum, preying that she would pick up.

"Callie, hi Honey." She greets.

"Hey mum, it's great to hear your voice." I reply.

"You too Cal. But I don't think I'll be able to talk for long." She says.

I sigh, "What's going on mum? You need to talk to us."

"Look, it's comp-"

"Don't say it's complicated, that's all anyone's told me and I can't take it anymore. I need to know what you and dad are doing." I interrupt her.

"Callie, we want to tell you, we do. But you need to understand that we just can't." She replies.

"Why?" I ask, getting frustrated.

"When we get back, we'll tell you everything." She assures me.

I sigh in defeat, "When will that be?"

"We're not sure, at this rate it will be another week or so." She says.

"Are you in danger?" I ask quietly.

There is a pause on the line for a little, "We're strong."

It puts me on edge, but I decide not to question it further, "Well, please be careful, and give my love to dad."

"I will Honey, I love you." She says.

"Love you too." I reply.

With that, the line goes dead and I put down the phone.

My grandparents were in the living room, watching something on TV, and Alec was up in his room. The moonlight was streaming in through the window, and I lean against the kitchen counter, closing my eyes and rubbing my temples.

"I can feel you stressing about something. Meet me at our spot?" Cason mind-links me.

I can't help but smile a little, "Okay."

Walking to the door, I grab my coat and put on my boots, "I'll be back soon." I say to my grandparents.

"Okay Dear." Grandma replies.

I go outside and run into the forest, shifting when I'm sure I'm at a safe distance. The spot wasn't too far, and with the rate that I was running at, I knew that I'd get there quickly.

When I break into the clearing, I can see with my night vision that Cason is already sitting near the water's edge. He had cleared some snow so that he was sitting on the lush grass underneath.

I shift back in my human form and walk towards him, he looks up at me as I approach and pats the grass next to him.

I sink down and he folds his arm around me securely as I lean into him, "What's up?" He asks.

I sigh, "It's just my parents, I have no idea where they are or what they're doing, they refuse to tell me."

"They'll tell you when the time is right." He replies smoothly.

"That doesn't stop me from worrying about them though." I say, picking at the grass.

"I get it." He replies. He then pulls us back so that we're laying on the grass, staring up into the starry night sky. It was a little cold, but I had my coat and him to keep me warm.
