Chapter 42

After ng water break nila agad din sinimulan ang practice game ng grupo. Gaya ng dati the group is divided into two pero ngayon hindi na si Drake o si Benj ang team leader kung hindi si Kiko sa group ni Benj at si Andre sa group ni Drake. Matapos ng nangyari last time Shirley can't rely on the two boys anymore after there last fight. They must once again prove there selves that they are worthy being the team leaders.

Kahit hindi sila ang pinuno starting players naman sila. What can there practice game do kung hindi rin maglalaro ang dalawa sa pinakamagagaling sa batch nila. Pumwesto na ang mga players sa court at umupo na din ang coach at ibang coaching staff para manood at magmasid.

Tip off pa lang masyado ng umarangkada sa depensa si Drake. Nakuha ni Benj ang bola. Mahigit pa sa mahigpit sa depensa si Drake. Nangagalaiti pa rin kasi ito sa selos. Ni hindi nga sumagi sa isip niya ang nangyari sa kanila ni Lexie kanina.

Drake is not a defensive player but because his talents in reading his opponents is exceptional, hindi naging madali para kay Benj ang opensa. 

Kung ipapasa ko ang bola kay Kiko sigurado akong makukuha ni Drake ang bola. Madali niya akong mababasa. Kailangan ko ng screen- habang drinidrible ni Benj ang bola.

Sumenyas si Benj sa mga kasamahan, dali-dali kumilos ang team at agad nagscreen si Kobi kay Drake para makalabas ng depensa si Benj but to there surprise Drake leaves out the screen na tila wala lang si kobi. He expects there movement kaya nasundan pa rin niya si Benj.

I won't let you off that easy Jalbuena. Not on basketball and certainly not on Shirley- pursigidong pag-iisip ni Drake.

He almost steal the ball naunahan lang siya ni Benj ng ipasa nito ang bola kay Kiko na bakanteng bakante sa mga oras na yun. Nabitawan na ni Kiko ang bola para ishoot ng biglang supalpal. Kiko was amazed how fast Drake to block his shot. Before pa siya pumwesto para makapagshoot he saw Drake guarding Benj but how did Drake moved that fast is beyond his explanation.

Lagdameo at it's best! gusto ko to full geared ka..-naisip ni Kiko ng nasupalpal siya ni Drake.

Lumipas ang pitong minuto wala pa rin nakakapuntos sa dalawang team. Kung gaano kabagsik si Drake sa depensa hindi naman papatalo ang defensive duo na si Benj at Kobi. Naka-double team si Drake at kahit pa ang three pointer na si Andre ay di umobra. 

Nang ma-out of bounce ang bola agad tumawag ng time-out si Drake.

Now you're both acting as leaders- Shirley thought while watching both boys.

"I have a plan.. masyadong mahirap lusutan ang double team and we can't use your threes Dre dahil mahigpit si benj sa depensa. We can't score outside and neither in the paint dahil kay Kobi. What we have to do is to break that defense. I will in-bound the ball to Andre, screen immediately Benj and pass me the ball.." wika ni Drake.

"Pass and shoot offense... okey let's try.. seven minutes passed and we remain scoreless..dapat tayo ang unang makapuntos" tugon naman ni Andre.

Matapos ang 30sec time-out nagsimula na ang game plan nila Drake.

"If Lagdameo's team can shoot the ball then this ball game is decided.." wika ng coach na narinig naman ni Shirley.

Tama ang coach kung mapasok nila Drake ang bola alam na kung sino ang mananalo sa practice game nato but for her even if Drake can shoot the ball Benj will never leave it like that,  definitely there will be a counterattack.

As planned nagawa nila ni Drake ang game plan. It was his  teardrop shot na napasok niya ang bola. Yun ang unang puntos ng laro.

But just as Shirley predicted Benj team prepared a counterattack a run-gun offense. Hindi pa man nakabalik sa depensa sila Drake nauna na ang bola sa kabilang dako ng court. Sa exceptional na ability ni benj sa pagpasa ng bola, nagulantang na lang kabilang team na naishoot na ni kiko ang bola at bawi agad ang puntos.

Mahigpit na depensa at matinding opensa ang pinapakita ng magkabilang grupo. Nagpatuloy na ganun hanggang sa huling minuto ng laro. Tabla ang puntos, nasa mga kamay nila Benj ang bola. Bilang isang point guard, Benj doesn't always have the shot it was Kiko's job. But this time na masyadong mahigpit dinedepensahan si Kiko he need to showcase his shooting abilities. Agile as he is, hindi mapantayan ni Andre ang liksi ni Benj, di siya makasabay sa tempo. Sa pagod to keep up with Benj, Andre loosen his defense and Benj find his opening and didn't hesitate to do a jumper. It was too late for Andre to screen the shot Benj had already let the ball flew to the net and break the tie. 

With only 28sec remaining, Benj is able to gain a two point lead. But for Drake as long as he don't hear the buzzer beater they still have hope to win. Mabilis na kinuha ni Andre ang bola at pinasa ito kay Drake. Kiko's guarding Drake. He didn't give him any space para makshoot ito outside the line. But Drake is confident he step back and pull off a three. Lahat nakatingin sa bola na nasa ere hanggang sa bumagsak ito sa ring and the time stops. 

Drake's team won over a one point lead. Bakas ang satifaction at kasiyahan sa bawat grupo. Kahit talo sila Benj they give there all and the game is so good that they could not regret anything even they lose.

"Great game! I see future MVP's in these batch....you take your shower and all your practices are paid off.. Shirley, you did a great job!" tugon ng coach matapos ang laro.

"I did nothing coach!..they did.." and Shirley look over the boys who are exhausted from the game.

Umalis na ang buong coaching staff at nagpaiwan si Shirley. She was waiting for....

"I lost! hehehe, masyadong magaling si Drake" wika ni Benj matapos makapagshower.

"Ang galing mo kaya.. pareho kayong magaling.." wika ni Shirley without any bias.

Out of the blue lumitaw si Drake. "pareho?... ganun din ba sayo? pareho lang din ba nararamdaman mo para sa amin ni Benj.."

"Drake!" wika ni Benj na nabigla sa sinabi ni Drake.

"Where that come from?" tanging nasabi ni Shirley.

"Hindi naman pwedeng kaming dalawa, hindi naman ata tama yun! Kailangan pumili ka!" medyo pasigaw na tugon ni Drake.

He can't stand this set up anymore. Ayaw niyang umasa over nothing. Oo gusto at mahal niya si Shirley pero hindi naman siya tanga para magpakamartyr na lang.

Hindi na din kumibo si Benj,  may punto si Drake darating din ang panahon na pipili si Shirley pero sa tingin niya this isn't the time. Hindi nila kailangan madaliin ang dalaga. Kaya naman humarap si Benj kay Drake at "mag-usap tayo sa labas lalaki sa lalaki.." at nauna itong lumakad.

Drake meet Benj eyes and it was the same eyes he saw when he insist Lexie to speak up. He also thought tama lang din siguro na mag-usap silang dalawa dahil naging masyado ng komplikado ang sitwasyon nila tatlo.

Samantala si Shirley naman left like a stick unable to move. Natamaan siya sa sinabi ni Drake. Kailangan nga niya pumili, hindi pwede na ituring niya ang dalawa ng equal dahil may lalamang at lalamang pagdating sa affection. Pero sino ang pipiliin niya.
