Hey guys! Another update. Yay! Hope you enjoy. let me know what you think! :D
Chapter 29 ~ Abbegael
I watch them walk away the weight of the world hanging from my heart, and as they slowly fade into the world around them beneath Milli's guise I drift through our link and keep pace with them that way.
The inexplicable connection between Zak and I allows me to breathe despite the weight in my chest; being able to keep track of them, to know if they are in danger even while they aren't with me, prevents the feeling of helplessness completely overtaking me.
We're fine, Ab's, Zak's voice drifts through me and a smile tugs up my lips.
I know. I feel him acknowledge the roll of my eyes despite the fact we cannot see each other, and feel the grin that stretches his lips.
Then stop pacing, you're going to wear a hole in the rock if you keep at it. And I think you're starting to worry Gabriael.
What? His words jolt me back to myself and I realise he's right; I am pacing the room, and none too slowly, while Gabriael's eyes follow closely, worry building within their depths.
If you're going to follow me, maybe you could sit down, at least while there's nothing much happening.
Okay, I murmur, heat traveling through my cheeks at the realisation I'd been pacing without even knowing it.
It's okay Abby, you'll get used to it. Being in two places at once isn't easy to start with. I'm used to it from Shielding and Reading other people most of my life. You only just started. You'll get better. A gentle feeling of warmth flows through me with his words and I pull myself to a stop and move to lean against the rough hewn rock of the wall.
"Sorry, Gabby. I didn't realise I was pacing."
"It's quite alright, Abbegael. Though it would probably be best if you learned how to be aware of yourself here even while you're with Razakiel."
Maybe she can help you, actually. Ask her to spar with you. There is a hint of mischief in his words and I hesitate for the briefest of moments.
How will that help?
Gabriael can't be beaten, so you'll have to focus just to block her attacks and prevent her taking the advantage. While you do that Milli will talk to me and you need to be here to listen to what she says as well as with Gabby.
"Zak wants me to spar with you?" It comes out more a question than a statement and a knowing grin crosses her lips.
"Did he tell you why?" She laughs
"You can't be beaten?" She nods as she before she explains further.
"I have the ability to read peoples movements and establish their patterns so I can see their next moves before they make them. In a fight it simply means I can block any attack you make and take advantage of gaps in your future moves to gain the upper hand. But I can be beaten, by those stronger than me and others with similar Talents."
Still focused over here, Abby? I take a deep breath realising I completely lost track of Zak and Milli while Gabby was just speaking, so how in the world am I supposed to focus on them while sparring? You'll get it, just give it a try.
Before I can agree, or not, Gabby is standing in front of me, fists raised in preparation for a fight. Her eyes scan down my body, locking on certain points for a moment before moving on. But she makes no move. I raise my own fists to match hers. Flick my mind to Zak and hear Milli murmuring about the logistics of hiding them in the shadows.
