Chapter 30 ~ Razakiel

The relief that floods through me at the realisation that Abby is safe barely has the chance to relax the tension in my muscles before they tighten once again in response to soft rumble of noise up ahead. I glance down at Milli and the wary light in her eyes tells me that she hears it too. Scanning ahead for thoughts of Fallen or demons I find only the shielded minds of three or four Fallen not too far ahead. As we continue forward we enter into a large cavernous room and I recognise where we are. The stone table still drips blood and pain spreads through my chest as I wonder if its hers.

It's only when I receive a soft nudge from Milli that I realise I have stopped moving. I apologise directly to her mind and move forward. I know where we are going now, where Lucifer will be with a chosen few he trusts to discuss his plans with. A small room off the back of the large cavern, its entrance hidden by a trick of the rough rock curving back on itself. But I was one of the people in that room not that very long ago so getting in is easy.

We creep along now, careful not to make any sound to alert them to our presence. When we reach the entrance I stop and listen, stretching my mind in an attempt to enter the thoughts of any one of them. I am met with a wall too thick to break through without alerting immediate attention to our presence.

We have to go closer, she barely hesitates before nodding and stepping closer as she waits for me to lead the way. I take a deep breath, careful to be as silent as possible and slowly move forward.

Be careful! Abby's words jolt me to a stop once again, heart rate increasing further as the pressure of moving into a room with Lucifer and his minions looms. Abby's fear wriggles through, twisting and growing like a weed finding tiny cracks in my resolve.

Abby, please calm down. It will be fine, but I can't do this with your fear niggling at the back of my mind. I need you to trust that we can do this.

I do trust you, Zak. I just can't stand the thought of him getting you, the image of me in her place on that table fills my mind as another wave of terror floods through her. And then it is gone. Locked away in the back of her mind. Under control. For the moment at least. I send her calm and silently heal the bruises left by Gabriael before I finally step through into Lucifer's lair.

Lucifer stands facing us, three fallen facing him. Standing between us and him. They don't react as we step into the room, just continue as if we aren't even present. The burning in my lungs alerts me to the fact I'm holding my breath and I silently release the trapped air and tune in to the words drifting through the room.

"She hasn't been found yet, Sir." The voice trembles as the words fall free from the red haired angel and a cloud passes over Lucifer's face.

"But every spare Fallen and demon is searching for her. We will find her once more, General." Chase's voice draws my attention to the blonde Fallen a burning rage sparking at the realisation that this thing is standing in the same room as I am. The urge to destroy him is almost overwhelming. It is only Abby's presence in my mind promising retribution at a later date, reminding me that I absolutely cannot be captured, that stops me from ruining everything and killing him right there

"Get out." The words are soft, gentle even. But the underlying power lurches the Fallen into moving immediately. "Find her. If I have to do it myself..." The threat should hang idle and unfinished but everyone in the room knows Lucifer won't stop with simply killing them. The red head moves even faster, almost running from the room. Chase maintains a steady gait but panic surges through him all the same. We step aside as they move towards us and allow them to exit the room.

The last Fallen, a large dark skinned Angel, tall and muscular who I recognise as Lokiel doesn't move. Lucifer's gaze slides towards him a glint of something unfathomable lurking within its depths.
