I decided to write the next chapter. A few of you wanted to get to the end and for the first time in a long time I actually felt motivated to write. So here it is, hope you enjoy. For those of you still reading, please vote and give me your thoughts, it keeps me motivated when I hear from you.
Chapter 33 ~ Abbegael
He's right there. So close, almost within reach. I almost don't notice the Fallen between us as I lunge for him. Carita's firm grip and Zak's shout in my mind are the only things that finally draw my attention to them and even then I can't focus completely. My eyes drawn back again and again to where he stands. Even as he gives his order and turns to disappear deeper inside the cavern.
A flash above me draws me back to where we stand and I don't have enough time to lift my blade to meet the one falling from above. I duck and twist to the right. A scream echoing against the distant walls as I feel metal bite deep into my shoulder. The pain finally focuses my mind fully in the moment.
I stumble back a step as the weapon is yanked back and my vision blurs for half a heart beat before coming back with burning clarity. My left arm hangs useless at my side. But my sword arm lunges forward even as the Fallen before me steps back preparing for his next blow.
His eyes widen at my sudden movement and he swings sooner than he intended making it easy catch his sword with my own and force it back with a twist. He still thinks he has the advantage, eyes lingering on my limp arm and the heavy flow of blood.
I step forward again taking up his personal space. I feel Zak's warning without him saying a word and pivot back as another Fallen tries to sneak in behind me and cut me off from the others. I reach down inside myself for the rage that has driven me before and I lift her without using a finger and slam her back until she hits the jagged walls. A stomach churning crack rents the air before she falls to the floor in a broken heap.
My eyes are back on Fallen number one within moments, but he lies limp at my feet. Someone else beat me to him. Anger bubbles under my skin, itching to be released and I settle on the next two Fallen to cross my line of sight.
Lashing out wildly. Living for the feel of flesh giving under steel. The crack of bones snapping under my control. The Fallen fall further as I tear through them.
Milli's scream is eclipsed my Carita's roar and I can't stop my eyes from flitting to the source. The whole room seems to freeze as the terrifying rumble. My heart drops like a stone to my feet. Milli's frail body lies all to clearly on the floor.
For a heart beat the silence remains unbroken. Then the Fallen move in again, taking advantage of their win and our loss. But Carita roars once more his hands reaching and clawing at an Fallen that gets within reach. Even as I turn to focus on my own battle, I see them dropping like flies around him. As if he is sucking the life right from them with barely a touch.
"For Milli," I murmur, joining him on his rampage, I tear down every Fallen I see. I reach out and crush one from the inside, stab the next with my blade. I feel the others join us letting the rage sweep over them. It feels like forever has passed, or mere moments. But finally only one Fallen remains.
Her face pale and blood smeared. Hair so light its almost pure white and eyes the deepest blue. Despite the odds, theres not even a flicker of fear in her. She stands tall almost inviting death to fall upon her. And its this that makes me falter.
"Danniel?" Terror like I've never experienced trickles like ice through my veins as I recognise the Fallen Angel. A friend. My eyes drift from her to the dead at my feet. The dead strewn across the room. And I finally realise what he's done.
