Epilogue ~ Abby

Warmth surrounds me as I drag my heavy lids open. The familiar white glow of Heaven encases the cozy room, only brightened by the brilliant, sunny yellow of the wall across from where I lay. A smile tugs my lips at the happy colour and I roll onto my back, preparing to get up and face the day.

A burning heat sliding across my waist draws my attention and I glance down, only to find a tanned muscular arm draped across my body. Even as I watch the muscles bunch and tighten as it drags my body across the soft sheet and against a firm chest.

Following the arm up to broad shoulders and a neck I've rested my head on too many times to count, I finally look up at the face I've come to know all too well over our time together. The tanned skin, the long black lashes that hide his enigmatic emerald eyes, the full lips and strong jaw.

I can't stop my hand from lifting to touch the smooth skin. I slide my fingers around and into his midnight hair, loving the silky softness of the short locks. A soft groan slips from his lips and my gaze shifts back to where those endless eyes now stare steadily back at me. His lips tilt up and he breathes out something like a relieved sigh.

"Morning, Abby," He murmurs softly lifting himself up on one arm and leaning closer, "I love you." He whispers moving closer almost hesitantly as if I might disappear at any moment, "I'm so glad you're okay." He chokes out the words, his lips brushing over mine as he speaks.

I wrap my arms around him, knowing he dreamt about it again and all too aware that he needs to know I'm here and I'm perfectly fine. Removing the last vestiges of space from between us I press my lips against his. Soft and gentle. His response is instantaneous and I feel his groan more than hear it as it rumbles through his chest.

I pull back with a grin as he drags me closer and rolls us so I'm straddling him. He lets out a sigh and runs his hands up and down my sides, eyes watching me, taking in every detail and like always I feel colour bloom in my cheeks and flick my gaze away at the feeling. A deep chuckle slips from him and my eyes snap back to his. Narrowing even as he pulls me closer once again and presses his lips tenderly to the tip of my nose.

"I still love seeing you blush." The words are barely a whisper but they further enflame the heat beneath my skin, though I can't hide the small smile that pulls up my lips.

"I love you too, Zak." I murmur, my words undoubtable. This Angel is everything to me. Without him I'd be...I shut that thought down before it can fully form, but I know he heard it and is all too aware of where it was going. His eyes fall closed and he takes a deep breath forcing out the ever present fear in his mind.

I lay my head down against his chest, hearing his strong heart beat rapidly against my ear, and close my eyes thinking only happy thoughts. His hands still rest at my sides, rubbing soft circles over the exposed skin at my hips.

"We're safe now. I'm safe. They can't hurt me anymore. He can't hurt me anymore." I whisper and his heart begins to slow to its regular rate. I close my eyes too comfortable resting against his chest and sleep falls over us once again.
