3rd Person POV
Ocean blue hues stare at the sunset as the merman hoisted his body above the water, sitting himself on top of the rocks at the edge of the sea, his sky blue tail moved creating small ripples in the water.

Haruka sits there waiting for his favourite human to visit. Like Charlena Slaner always did - everyday at the exact same spot at the same time, it had been that way since he first met her, and that was a while ago; just a human from dry land and a creature of the ocean sitting on a rock watching the sun set together in peaceful silence, but lately, Haru finds himself paying more attention to the human rather than the sunset.

The dark haired merman really, really likes her. Haru thinks her smile is breathtaking, and when she spoke...her voice was soothing, so pleasant to the ear; it makes him go funny in the head and causes flutters in his stomach, all he wants to do is listen to her speak, even if he can't understand - Haruka never understood what she was saying but the sound of her voice, her presence, her being with him for a few minutes everyday was enough for him.

Breaking away from his thoughts, his ears perk up at the sound of footfalls, he turns, eyes landed on the very person he wants to see, the only one that can make his heart skip and face burn hot. Charlena.

Haruka waits until she sat down on her usual rock before he reaches up and touches the side of her face, he feels the warmth of her cheeks on his cold, wet fingertips, he doesn't show it on his face but he's happy she's here, she knew he's pleased.

"Hey there," She greet him, he waves his tail in response, creating small splashes, she watch as the merman disappears into the water, he needs to breathe as much as he wants to listen to her melodious voice, his head reemerges a moment later only to find her eyes looking over the horizon filled with unhappiness.

His usually emotionless eyes widen, and reach out to touch her face again, Haru really wishes he spoke human language, then maybe, just maybe, he could ask what's bothering her.

"My parents are assholes." She let out a wry smile, Haru withdraws his hand and sits beside her, his shoulder brushes against the odd coloured thing that wrapped around her body, humans m are always wearing funny thingies on them, "They're always forcing me, pressuring me to take over the company and all."

He just stares as she speaks, she came to the beach everyday to meet him, and yet, neither he nor her knew how to speak the others language, he wants to know what's making her sad but he doesn't know how to ask, her optics met ocean blues, and Haru sees the sadness in her eyes. What's wrong? That's all he wants to know.

Haru wonders if he's no longer amusing her, he hopes not, he doesn't want her visits to stop. She's his best friend, even if she had feet instead of fins, he's got no one in the oceans, no other merfolks exist but it's been a long time since he has encountered another, and frankly speaking, he doesn't get along well with his own kind.

"I don't want to take over the business. I wanna take marine biology," she continued, poking the smaller rocks with her foot. "But when I told them, they just rebuffed the idea like always."

Haru could only stare at her, not able to understand anything that she just said. All he knows is that she's sad, he reaches for her hand, holding it in his own one; he really likes the feel of her skin under his touch.

She turned to meet his gaze, and the raven notices the tears pooling her eyes. She's crying, he thinks. Is it his fault? Maybe he shouldn't have touched her without asking first, he draws back his hand, and holds up his palm to her before diving back into the water.

She wonder what he could've possibly meant by his gesture, but after a minute or so, the merman returns, holding something in his hands.

He gently took her palm, and places a small object in the middle of it, when he lets go, she saw a small, bluish-grey pearl resting in her hand, a genuine pearl from the ocean, he's giving her a pearl, a rare treasure of the sea. How many oysters did he have to crack open to find this one?

Her eyes meet his azure orbs, and the merman gives you a faint smile, and then, she couldn't hold back the tears anymore, his eyes widen in surprise. Did she hate the gift? Oh gods, does she hate him now?

She notice the look on his face, and shake her head. "No, I'm not crying because I hate it. I love it, thank you. I'm crying because I wish I can understand you." Her voice was soft but there isn't a hint of sadness. "I want to understand you."

She stare at him for the longest time and he stares back and then, she sighs and turns her gaze to the orange sky. "I've known you for a long time. You are the only one who I can talk to...and yet, I don't even know your name because of this whole language barrier thing. It's worse than me talking a German because I don't have a dictionary for your language."

A sad smile bloom in her features as she held the pearl to her chest. She like him, she really did. Yet, even if she utter the three words she had been dying to say to him, it's not like your merman friend could comprehend. She wonder, how does 'I love you' sound like in his language?

Haruka takes her free hand and brings it to his mouth, his breath ghost over her lithe fingers, she turned to meet his gaze again; her heartbeat becomes increasingly erratic. Neither of them moved an inch, nor want to break eye contact. She begin to wonder if when he needs to dive back in the water for oxygen. But he doesn't move, he just continues to gaze into your eyes.

Then, he leans closer, and something moves against her lips, it takes a moment or two, but then she realises that he's kissing her, it was sudden and spontaneous, neither of them knew what they doing, but instead of recoiling, she found herself melting into the kiss, pressing her lips against his cold, soft lips.

And once they break apart, he held her hands in his; she found herself drowning in pools of ocean blue, and he, lost in her hues.

Haruka doesn't know the human language nor could she understand merfolk tongue, but they didn't need words to tell each other how they feel.

Because she both know what they felt for each other is love.
