Winning the war

(Ava's pov)

Bucky pushes me back with immense force and I fall over the edge. I quickly and luckily get a firm hold on the edge of the platform. I start to pull myself up as I hear three gun shots. When I finally get myself back up I see Steve is down. "Steve!" I shout as I run in his direction. I then feel a sharp pain shoot though my abdomen. I collapse and roll on my back. I look down and my vision starts to blur. Just before I lose consciousness I can see blood flowing out of where I feel the pain. Bucky shot me.

(Steve's pov)

I use whatever strength I have left to get myself up and replace the chip. Once the chip is in place I inform hill. "Ok where are you?" She asks. "There's no time." I reply "but Steve-" "do it now!" I shout. The next moment the helicarriers open fire on each other. I make my way to the railing as explosions go off around me. When I look over the edge I see Bucky trapped under a large iron support beam that collapsed, and an unconscious, severely injured Ava. I jump down and pull the beam off Bucky enough for him to get it. He stands up and looks at me. "You know me." I say "no I don't" he says punching me "Bucky you've known me your whole life" I say only earning myself another punch. "Your name is James Buchanan Barns." I continue "shut up!" Bucky shouts punching me again I fall but get back up as fast as I'm able too. I drop my shield causing it to fall through the hole in the platform. "I'm not gonna fight you. You're my friend." I say.

Bucky pins me down landing next to Ava. I quickly glance over to see she's been shot and is losing a lot of blood. I'm so sorry Ava. "You are my mission." Bucky says punching me repeatedly in the face with his metal arm. He hesitates on the last punch "then finish it." I say barely able to keep my eyes open. "Cause I'm with you... to the end of the line." I continue. Bucky slowly lowers his fist staring at me, his eyes wide. A large structure then comes crashing down breaking the platform. Ava and I are sent hurtling towards the earth to the lake below. Bucky was able to take hold of a beam to keep himself from falling.

I wake up in a hospital room to music, I look over to see Sam reading a book next to the bed. "On your left." I say Sam smiles "how you feeling?" He asks "I've been better" I answer. There is then a short silence between us "she's alive, Steve." Sam says. I turn my head to look at him again "Ava. She hasn't woken up yet but, she's alive." Sam continues. I let out a sigh of relief. I thought she was really gone. "I should have done more to help her." I say "don't steve. If anything it's on me. I took her to that carrier. You did the best you could while still completing the mission." Sam says. "Still." I say. "Her sister is with her right now. She said she would let us know when she wakes up." Sam informs me.
