Sam:
I opened the car door, stepping out onto the pavement. Niall looked to me from the driver's seat. "You sure you're OK?"
I nodded slowly. "I need to do this."
He then closed the door and pulled out his phone.
I sighed, staring at the landscape before me.
Walking in, I scanned the area for my people, then found them.
Making my way over, I knelt and placed a rose on each of my parents' graves.
"Hey Mom, Dad." I whispered, still on my knees in front of their graves. "It's been a while since I've come here. 6 years, I think." I felt tears welling up in my eyes and streaming down my cheeks, but instead of wiping them away, I let them fall onto the dirt beneath my feet. "And I just wanted to say....I'm sorry." I whispered, before I began to sob. "I'm sorry I was angry! I'm sorry my last words to you were hateful!" I cried, my shoulders shaking. "And despite all that, you still cared enough about me to go check on me! It's my fault you died! If I had been at home like I should've...." I trailed off, before continuing.
"I'm getting married tomorrow, to a wonderful guy named Niall. But I had to get this off my chest beforehand." I stared at the ground, before I looked back up. "I want you to know that I'll always love you. And those words were a lie. I've never stopped loving you." I brushed my fingers across the engravings, before rising to my feet. Trembling, I raised my fingers to my lips, and blew a kiss at the graves.
As I walked back to Niall, I felt the load resting on my heart become lighter.
Now, for the first time in years, I was finally at ease.
