As Tuesday rolled around, I was fully prepared for our business trip. However I wasn't prepared for all of the free time Sebastian had carved out specifically for us. I thought it was sweet of him to even try but I couldn't help but be nervous for whatever he had planned.
"You're killing me here." Sebastian huffed as he put my last bag in the car. "Listen I have a bad habit of overpacking. Enough is not enough, trust me."
"Yeah, Yeah. You probably won't even use half of what's in here." He chuckled. "And if I only had half there would be some reason why I need the other half. Better to have it when you don't need it than need it when you don't have it." I shrugged.
"I guess you are right in that aspect."
Ben opened the back door for us after he nd Sebastiana got the bags in the car. "Thanks, Ben, always looking out."
"Just doing my job, Nyla." He smiled.
"Since when does Ben Address you that way?" Sebastian asked after we both got in the car. "Since I told him to weeks ago. He and I are basically friends Now."
"Friends?"
"Yes, Sebastian. Jealous?" I teased. "Psh, no." He waved me off and rested his hand on my thigh. "This okay?" He asked. I nodded in response and he gave me a sweet smile.
The car ride was short and uneventful. It took about thirty minutes to get to JFK and 15 to board the jet. "I thought Amara and Alex were coming," I said when I noticed the plane preparing for take-off and the twins weren't here yet. "I told them we could handle this trip." He said.
I nodded in response and relaxed further into my seat. I closed my eyes for a second only for my peace to be disturbed by my phone ringing. I would've ignored it but I saw that it was Ambrose calling.
"Hey, Ambrose." I greeted him when I answered the phone. "Hello bellísima. It's been a bit."
"Ah, it has. How are you? How's Hungary or are you in Romania now?" The last time I spoke to him, on the phone at least, was about a week and a half ago when he was in Austria. But as I texted him through the week he'd told me he was jumping country to country exploring.
"Neither actually. Just touched down in Moldova. I'll only be here for a little while though before I head to Poland. Anyways I'm well, how are you?"
"Feeling pretty good actually. On my way to California." I shared. "For Business or pleasure?" He asked.
"Mostly business."
"How long are you gonna be out there?" He asked. "Until Thursday, I'm actually going to Poland after."
"I'm scheduled to fly out there Thursday, maybe we can get together." He offered. "I'm down. Just let me know the time and place."
I looked over at Sebastian as he took a seat beside me. Over the past couple of days, I noticed that he kind of went out of his way to be close to me or touch me and it was kind of adorable. "Great! Can't wait to see you."
"Same here, dude. I'll talk to you later."
After hanging up I gave Sebastian my full attention. "Finally!" He exclaimed dramatically. "Oh please." I rolled my eyes playfully and kissed his cheek. "Alright brief me on these people we're meeting with." He said as he grabbed his iPad from his bag.
After about 2 hours, I got hella bored. Sebastiana was knocked out cold with his head in my lap and I was trying my best to figure out what I could spend my time doing. I sighed and continued to run my fingers through his hair. He told me it helped him relax and even after he fell asleep I continued because it relaxed me too for some reason.
After a while, my mind wandered to the position I was in with Sebastian. He's my person. We've made our relationship official between us. But no one else knows. I'd like to keep it that way for a while.
When thinking got depressingly boring, I decided to wake Sebastian up. "Seb." I poked his cheek in hopes that it'd be enough to wake him. "Sebastian."
I poked him a few more times and got no dome of a response. I sighed and decided that the only way to get him up was to knock him down. So I did my best and pushed him out of the chair. He jumped up off the floor really fast and looked around rubbing his head. I, on the other hand, was laughing at his face.
"Why'd you push me out the chair?" He grumbled clearly annoyed.
"Because I'm bored," I said. He glared at me and sat back down beside me. I expected him to lay his head back into my lap but instead, he pulled me into his.
"So you push me out the chair instead of waking me up like a normal person?"
"No I tried and you wouldn't wake up so I pushed you out the chair. You do realize there's a lot of seats on this jet right?" I questioned.
"And your point being...?"
"I don't need to be sitting right here," I said in a duh tone. He chuckled and pulled me closer.
"I like you right here. Is that a problem Ms. Carter?" He said and kissed my cheek.
"Nope, not a problem at all," I said with a small smile. I lied my head onto his shoulder and thought about how nice this felt. His arms were wrapped around me and I felt safe which was different. I'd never felt safer. I noticed that before he even told me how he felt. Whenever I was around him I felt like that.
"What're you thinking?"
"This is nice...you make me feel... safe," I mumbled. He looked down at me with a smile and kissed my forehead. "You make me feel safe." He replied.
When the plane finally landed, there was a car waiting for us. As soon as I got settled in the car my phone started ringing. I sighed softly as I answered.
"Oye, Princesa. ¿Cómo estás?" Javier said.
"Hola! I'm good, you?" I responded. "Estoy muy bien." He exclaimed.
"That's Good, where have you been dude?" I asked. "At work trying to figure out somethings. But I know someone who's birthday is coming up. She's about 5'5, green eyes, a dimple in her right cheek, and extremely beautiful. Do you know her?" He asked.
I smiled and nodded forgetting he couldn't see me. "Yes, I know her. Don't forget she's super intelligent." I said.
"Ella es muy inteligente!!" He yelled and I laughed. "We should go out for dinner to celebrate." He said.
"Sounds good. I won't be in town all week but we can try for next Wednesday maybe." I said.
"Perfecto. I got to go but I'll call you later. Chao princesa."
"Adiós."
After I hung up I turned to Sebastian who was glaring. "What's wrong?" I asked. "Who was that?"
"Javier why?"
"I don't like him or your relationship with him," Sebastian said. "Sebastian we've been having a good day so far please don't start," I said with a sigh.
"What?! I was just telling you the truth." He shrugged. "Here's some more truth, you're not gonna like all of my friends. But despite his faults, Javier isn't a bad person."
"And I am."
My eyes nearly bugged out of my head upon hearing him say that. "What?! I never said that." I defended. "But you can't tell me you never thought it."
"What I think Is that you're a pain in the ass."
"How am I a pain in the ass. I'm just telling you how I feel." He argued. "It sounds like your just being jealous."
"Yeah well...you make me this way."
"I didn't even—stop talking to me." I huffed. I was beginning to feel like he just wanted to pick a fight. The argument didn't even sound ethical. To avoid blowing things even more out of proportion I decided to just leave it alone. I put my AirPods in and ignored his presence for the rest of the ride to wherever he told the driver to take us.
