I started by skipping every other step but I tripped too many times so I ended up just running up the stairs. I heard the cops yell something then a couple of gun fires. I stopped and ducked until I thought it was safe then I continued running up the stairs. I got to the top and ran into a door. I tried the knob but it was locked. Who locks a fucking door when I'm trying to run from the cops. Idiots. It took a couple times but I kicked the door open to an open space on the roof. I hesitated to walk through the door until I heard heavy stomps on the steps. I ran out, before I knew it I was at the edge of the roof looking over, I felt dizzy and nauseous. I heard the door slam I turned and ducked behind an air vent.
"We know you're up hear," A man's voice echoed between the buildings. "Surrender now and no harm will come to you." I peeked out from behind the vent and saw three men. "You're surrounded there's no way for you to escape." I sat back and put my hand on my temple to slow the pounding. I inhaled, pulling the hoodie down on my face and stood up with my hands in the air. All their guns were pointed at me, and none of them were tasers. "Let's see that face." I grinned glad to know they couldn't see it. I backed up as I heard their shoes shuffle against the gravel. I backed up until my calf touched the ledge. I glanced over the edge for a second and saw the fire escape used on most older buildings. "Don't do it," The man said. "We'll shoot you before yo-" I took that as my opportunity and jumped landing on my feet then falling to my back. I rolled over as i saw a hand holding a gun reach over the ledge. My first thought was to jump but then I realised that I'm at least twenty stories up... that will definitely end in death, but, my gaze landed on the window next to the fire escape and the ledge that hung underneath it.
"Yeah we've got her on the fireplace right below the roof." one officer said to his walkie, as the other two cops glared down, as the rest of the police force lined their cars at the bottom of the building.
"Hey, miss!" the older cop yelled," why don't you come back up here so we can talk about your options."
"Um, I'm good down here, thanks!" I waved the cop away, trying to figure out how to reach the ledge that hung four feet away from the edge of the fire escape. "Oh, God. Help me." right then the window slid open and of all people Blondie stood on the inside. "Thanks, for nothing."
"Hey!" he leaned out waving,"Looks like we've got quite the crowd." I'm sorry did he just say we? We? Where has he been in this whole thing? I'll tell you. No where! Absolutely no where! "C'mon, it's either me or them." He pointed up to the cops trying to make their way down. I crossed my arms and paced for a minute making it look like I was considering it, even though I already made up my mind... before he showed up. "I won't be here forever, princess!"
"Alright! Fine! But don't call me that!" I picked up my bag and threw it at him, thankfully he has good reflexes. He went back into the building as I climbed up onto the railing, using the wall to balance myself as I slowly stood up. The younger, middle aged cop jumped down onto the fire escape shaking it.
