Sometimes I wish I could turn invisible.
I was sitting alone in my usual spot when I heard a commotion. I looked up and saw a bunch campers running to the tree hill. I stood slowly and followed, fists shoved into my black leather jacket. I saw a bunch of campers surround a single person, swords drawn. I hovered at the back of the crowd, not caring enough to push my way to the front.
"Identify yourself!" I heard Clarisse yell at the person. Cursing my short legs, I stood on tip toe to see who she was addressing. It was a boy, just a regular person. He had blond, wavy hair. He had sort of an angular nose and deep set eyes. His face was slightly tan and his arm were thin, but he still had strong muscles. He was handsome, if I was one of the Aphrodite girls.
"I am Sam Feller, demigod." He said, raising his arms to show he was not going to use the bow strapped to his back. Clarisse gave him a suspicious, narrow eyed look. She obviously didn't trust him. "I've been searching for this place for a long time." He was relieved, but still slightly nervous from the swords pointed at him. I didn't trust him fully, but he obviously didn't want to harm anyone. Reading people's expressions and body language was a skill I had learned a long time ago.
"We should take him to Chiron!" Someone from the crowd called out. A few yells of agreement came from others.
"Agreed." Clarisse said and walked over to Sam. She grabbed him roughly and dragged him to the front of the crowd to take him to the Big House. I shied away from them and melted into the sidelines, no one gave me a second glance. I trudged after them, content at the lack of attention.
The heads of the cabins were filling in while the rest were going back to their previous activities. I sighed, all of the excitement mellowed down to the usual boring air that made up everyday at Camp Half-Blood.
I walked to the back of Poseidon's cabin, my usual spot to hide from everyone else. It was also the most convenient place to pray to my father. I closed my eyes and started.
'Dad,' I thought. 'Please, please don't claim me. I'm fine at the Hermes cabin, please don't claim me. I don't need to be claimed. I don't want to be claimed. Thanks.' I sighed and opened my eyes. I hope I'll have another day of solitude, but I'm never that lucky. Sometimes I will have a whole day to myself, only joining the others for diner. But most of the time something will interfere.
The sun was still about three hours from setting, so I stood and walked over to the mess hall. Which I could easily see form my hiding spot, but no one could see me.
I sat down at the very edge of the table, even thought the Hermes cabin was usually pretty full, I still have a good two feet bubble around me that was void of other campers. Just the way I like it.
As usual, my fellow campers shot me looks that said I was weird and I wasn't welcome. But I was used to it.
But suddenly something happened that I wasn't expecting. A hand suddenly coming out of no where and planting itself a foot away from my plate. I looked up, shocked. It was the Sam. He was leaning casually over me.
"What do you want?" I asked, giving him my fiercest scowl that made most people run away. He swallowed nervously, I was used to people being nervous around me, but he didn't seem nervous because he was scared of me. I couldn't quite tell what emotions he was feeling, but he didn't back off.
"I wanted to ask what your name was." My scowl deepened, he was lying. Well, he did seem to want to know my name, but there was something else.
"Claire." I grunted and turned my attention back to my chicken noodle soup, hoping he'd leave me alone.
