Some days are better spent in bed, not fighting metal monsters.

I was heading to breakfast, when a scream echoed through the camp. I looked up to see a figure sprinting from Thalia's tree. They were screaming and yelling, I saw them for a moment before they ran past me to the mess hall. It was Violet McDaniel. She looked insane, screaming and yelling for help. I raced after her, people turned and stared when we entered the Mess Hall.

Violet collapsed at the nearest table, which happened to be Aphrodite. Piper ran to her side and helped her up, then lead her to a seat.

"Violet, what's wrong? Why are you screaming?" Piper asked her. Violet rocked in her seat.

"Monsters! Great metal beasts!" she cried. "They took Damien!" She started to sob on Piper's shoulder. There was a hush, then Clarisse stood.

"What are we waiting for? Monsters are nothing we can't handle!" There was a roar of agreement. The entire Ares cabin jumped to their feet, already wearing armor, and charged to the hill. I turned and saw Claire standing there, her green eyes wide.

"How did monsters get past Thalia's tree?" Claire asked. I shrugged and followed the crowd of Ares children, Claire hard on my heels. I heard footsteps and saw Sam following.

"What kind of monsters are they?" he asked.

"I don't know." I replied.

"Let's just hope they don't get very far into camp." Claire murmured.

I swallowed uneasily as Claire's tone. I drew my sword and I saw Sam notch an arrow. We were a few feet from the top of the hill when we heard the snarling. The ground leveled out and I gasped. Giant wolves, almost bigger then horses, made entirely out of metal. Their silver pelts shined in the sunlight. Claire turned away.

"I left my sword back at my cabin!" she said and ran back down the hill. Clarisse and a few others surround the three wolves. One of them tried to sliced them with their sword, but it just bounced off. Sam carefully aimed and shot an arrow, it lodged itself into the small crack where the neck joint and head connected. The wolf jerked away once, but the arrow was pulled into it's body and then shot back out from it's flank. I was just able to block it with my sword.

"Attack!" Clarisse cried and they charged the silver wolves. The mechanical monsters howled in unison and faced the demigods. I launched myself into the fight and was instantly met by the largest wolf of the three. Sam was by my side, he notched another arrow and this one shattered the only thing on the wolf that wasn't silver, it's eye. It let out a howl and clawed at the arrow that was sticking out from it's eye socket.

"Nice shot." I said to him. But the wolf rose, the arrow snapped in half. The wolf shook it's head and a new eyeball rolled into place.

"Aww, come on!" Sam shouted, pointing his bow at the beast. "Now that's not fair!"

"Nico!" I turned to see Claire standing there, standing between us was another wolf. It's breath came out in a big huff, right in my face. I coughed, it smelled like dirty loose change. The wolf slashed it's paw forwards and clipped my arm. I cried out in pain and fell backwards onto Sam. He steadied me and I gave him a grateful look. "Leave them alone!" Claire jumped onto the wolf and stabbed her sword into it's neck.

The wolf froze, it's glowing golden eyes dimmed and slumped onto the ground. Claire slid of it's smooth back, sword in hand.

"That was easier than I thought it'd be." she said. Suddenly, the light returned to the wolf's eyes and he leapt onto Claire. She screamed and the wolf planted both paws on her chest.
