I wished I remembered the story before I was about to be eaten.
I was sitting in front of the hand, shivering. Claire and Marry had gone onto the catwalk to see if they could find anything suitable for a fire. The golden hand seemed to give off a cold light, so me and Sam were freezing our butts off.
I heard noise from above and looked up, Sam copied me. Then, silence. We both looked at each other, our eyebrows knit together. I rose and drew my sword.
"Claire?" I called up. "Marry? Is everything all right?" There was more shuffling, then Claire's voice answered.
"Yep! Everything just fine! We'll be back down in a minute!" I pursed my lips, she sounded way to cheery. Me and Sam looked at each other.
"I'm going up there," I said. "You stay here, I'll whistle if anything goes wrong." Sam glared at me.
"No!" he said angrily. "You're always trying to save the day! I'm not sitting here and waiting for you all to come down laughing about how you all got to fight and I was left behind!" I blinked a few times.
"You know what?" I said through gritted teeth. "I see why Claire doesn't like you in that way." Sam's hard look melted into a hurt one.
"W-what?" he said. "What do you mean?" I smirked evilly.
"Nothing," I said in a nonchalant voice. "Now if you'll excuse me."
I walked towards the ladder that lead up to the catwalk, I looked up and only saw darkness. Now, I'm pretty happy in the shadows and I have a few advantages when it comes to the dark. I could sense two bodies up there, Claire and Marry.
I slowly climbed up the ladder. Something about this seemed to familiar, I couldn't put my finger on it. Suddenly, a scream ripped through the silence. I recognized that scream.
"Claire!" I shouted, climbing up like my life depended on it. If I had been less panicked, I would have noticed the two bodies moving away from me. "Claire! Where are you?" I ran along the catwalk, nothing. "Claire?"
"I'm right here, Nico." I whirled around to come face to face with a cyclopes. Before I could yell, I felt a brutal blow to the back of my head and I collapsed. "Thank you so much for trying to save me." She cooed before everything went black.
I groaned and opened my eyes slowly. Blurry and unfocused shapes slowly appeared. I blinked a few times, trying to see before I was finally able to tell what was going on.
I was hanging upside-down, rope was wrapped tightly around me and kept me bound. I was gagged and I looked up, (technically it was down, but since I was upside-down, it was up to me) and I saw a giant pot with water bubbling inside. A fire was merrily crackling under the cauldron and the waves of heat made me sweat and squirm.
I turned to come face-to-face with a very scared looking Claire. She let out a muffled sigh of relief into her gag and she relaxed when she was I was okay. I raised me eyebrows and she nodded her head towards the hanger doors. I looked and saw a cyclops standing there, a club in hand. He was eyeing us with hunger-filled eyes and I felt my stomach turn with nausea.
"Well, well, well," I heard someone say. I turned my head to see another cyclopes, but this one was female. How do I know? Well, let's just say it's really hard to tell but there are a few indicators.
She wore a chainmail muumuu and her greasy hair was in pigtails, I gagged when a wave of her breath washed over me. It was like dirty cloths, body odor, and blood.
"Looks like our meal's awake." she said, her giant eye wild with excitement. She turned to the other cyclops. "Sump!" He snapped to attention. "Has your brother tracked down the other food-I mean demigods?" He glanced out the hanger doors and shook his head.
"No sign of him, Ma." Sump grunted, turning his ugly head back to her.
"He better hurry his fat behind up!" the cyclopse roared. "Now, go get the salsa." Sump nodded hurriedly and scrambled up onto the catwalk.
That's when it clicked. Ma Gasket! That was it! Jason had told me about how they crash landed in a wear house with "Monocle Motors" on it and they ran into Ma Gasket and her two sons, Sump and Torque. Ma Gasket turned back towards us, her yellow teeth bared in a cruel smile.
"Let's hope my lump of a son finds your tasty friends soon," her eye held a murderous look in it. "I'm not letting another meal get away."
