I knelt in front of my mother, her darkness billowing over the armchair of her throne.

"Morphis," she said. "You disappoint me."

"I'm sorry mother," I said, the fear not showing in my voice. Truth was, my mother scared me. "I tried, but she outsmarted me."

"She did not partake of the food?" Nyx asked.

"No, mother." I said, not looking up from my knelt position.

"But you did kiss her." she said.

"Yes, mother."

"Very well," Nyx said. "All is not lost."

It still burned me up inside every time I thought of that pitiful son of Hades kissing my Claire and running. I wanted to skin him alive.

"Is the spy inside camp updated on the situation?" Mother asked.

"Yes, mother." I replied.

"Good," Nyx purred. "Rise." I stood and looked my mother right in her dark eyes. "That saltwater scum has not stopped us, just delayed us." My hands clenched tightly together, she was insulting Claire. My Claire. "You are dismissed." I nodded and turned to leave. "Oh," Nyx said, stopping me. A sly smile spread over her face. "And good luck, Morphis. Things are about to get a whole lot more complicated."
