In The Waves

I awoke with a gasp to the shock of cold saltwater closing over my head. My lungs were now full of seawater, choking me with a powerful force. Then, the comforting grip of the Ocean wrapped around me.

Let the water out of your lungs, child of the Land. A voice commanded gently. It was a woman's voice, as caring as a mother's. I exhaled in a small burst of bubbles, and the Ocean carried me up through the dark water to the surface.

I gulped air like it was my lifeline, which it was. The waves sped around me as I flew towards the rapidly shrinking canoe.

Anger burned through me. Maui had thrown me off the boat in the middle of the Ocean. I would have drowned!

Oh, Maui was going to be in a world of hurt when I got there. I sped up.
