I froze, clapping a hand over my mouth. "Oh jeez, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that!" I apologized.

Maui shrugged. I could tell my comment bothered him, but he didn't want to show it.

"So anyways," I started, getting back on track, "I need you to help restore the Heart or of Te Fiti and save the world." I said, looking heroic in the dusk sun.

Maui began laughing

"What are you laughing at?" I demanded, a red blush creeping across my face.

"That's a nice story little girl!"He laughed.

I looked at him condescendingly, sizing up our physical ages.

"Look, I get that you're an all powerful demigod... But your physical body is about the same age as I am. So you can quit calling me 'Kid'." I said haughtily. "And it's not a story. Does this," I showed him the Heart again, "Look like a story?"

The canoe, unbeknownst to me, bumped against the shore. Maui saw it, however, and as I was ranting, he began tying the boat up with expert fingers.

I paused midsentence. "Where are we?"

"The gods call it 'The Defeated Island.'"
