Well Oops!

I waved cheerfully at Maui, turning to the forest, which was pitch black, and walking directly into the darkness.

To my surprise, the Heart of Te Fiti in my satchel began glowing in a pulsing green way. I glanced down at it, surprised, but continued walking.

"Now let's see if I can find a decent coconut..." I mumbled to myself.

Hah! Carnivores? What kind of ghost story was that?! Maui just wants to get his fishook. He didn't care if I lived or died!

In the dark, I walked straight into a tree. I fell backwards onto my butt with a small squeak. Something hit me across the face, hard. My head snapped to the side, shoved into the soft grass. My brain slammed into panic mode. That was NOT a tree!

Two hands grabbed my waist, while another two tied a gag in my mouth. A third set of hands grabbed my ankles.

I screamed loudly into the gag, thrashing as hard as I could.

"Give up and let ussss eat you!" Someone hissed to me. The glowing from my bag illuminated something terrifying. The head hovering over mine was more reptilian than human, with slitted eyes and no nose. The teeth were sharpened and the edges of his face were made of scales.

I froze in terror, my eyes rolling back into my head. Don'tfaintdon'tfaint! I screamed at myself.

I went completely limp, eyes closed. I felt my hands being tied together behind me.

DO SOMETHING YOU DUMB TWIT! I raged in my mind, still awake. The Carnivore's hand moves away, and I felt myself start moving as the snakes carried me. It was more of a slithering motion than actual walking, with occasional bumps.

Suddenly, my eyes snapped open and I thrashed as hard as I could moving in every direction. I threw my body weight backwards into the first Carnivore's body, colliding with smooth and scratchy scales.

The Carnivores dropped me suddenly, and I shot to my feet, running as fast as I could. The snakes could not move as fast as I, for their legs were not like mine. I flew over the soft turf, running towards the patch of moonlight that was the beach. The canoe was still there, and I could see Maui's giant form sitting in it, doing something equivalent to pouting.

I stopped, jumping backwards over my bound hands. I reached up, ripping off the gag, and screamed at the top of my lungs. "MAUI!"

There was a slithering sound behind me, and teeth came down hard on the side of my neck, drawing blood instantly.

I screamed again, thrashing against the fangs stuck in my neck.

The world started going dark. Darker, darker, yet darker. ( First person who gets that reference is dedicated in the next chapter.) 

I heard Maui's loud footsteps, crunching across the turf. He reached me as the Carnivore pulled away, hissing. 

And then it was black.
