My head was even foggier the second time I woke up. On top of that, it was pounding hard like someone had hit me with an oar, hard. I couldn't open my eyes. The light hurt too much to look upon safely.
I felt strange protrusions in my mouth. Fangs. I felt the need to feed. Feed on blood. Blood was good. And flesh. Flesh was tasty.
Maui, hurry UP! The voice was soothing yet commanding. I heard things moving. A humanoid creature was moving about, rocking the surface I sat upon.
I could smell its blood. It was tantalizing, the rare delicacy of the blood of a demigod. My mouth flicked open, the fangs dripping with venom.
"Oh, Maaauiii...." I singsonged. My voice was different, bestial. "I smell your blood, Maui. I'm hungry."
The boat stopped moving suddenly.
No... She's gone.. She can't be gone! MY DAUGHTER CAN'T BE GONE! The voice was strong. The Ocean started roiling as if tossed violently by a storm. The sky darkened. I opened my eyes to a story sky, rope binding my arms and legs to the canoe. I screeched, an unholy sound.
"Maui I need to feed - Maui get out of here! Swim away!" My real voice broke through then, catching me in a halfway state of metamorphasis.
I needed to fee - To save Maui. Maui was the only thing I was thinking about. The kiss when I appeared to be unconscious came rushing back. I froze.
Get. Away. From. Me. You filthy. MONSTER! I thought, wrestling with the side of my that wanted to rip and tear and feel his blood ebbing away under my hands, and feed until I could feed no more.
I sat up quickly, clutching my head. Repressing the monster.
"Please!" I sobbed to the Ocean, to Maui, to anyone that would listen. "Make it stop!"
Large, warm arms wrapped around me.
Arms pulsing with blood. With food.
And managed to gently push me down to the deck.
Pinned me like I was a helpless creature.
And tip a glass vial down my throat, one filled with sweet, gold liquid.
Forced a disgusting mixture down my throat.
And then I was okay. I could breathe. I could see. I wasn't being ripped apart from the inside out. I didn't desire to feast on Maui's blood.
Twin Dragon Tongue flowers burst to life on my hands.
