My mattress creaked and groaned as I slowly sat up in my bed. Today was the day. The day I'd be tested for my place in life. Everyone gets tested in the new society that has been developed. You get ranked from level zero to five. Based on your level, you attain a power that you are slowly trained on in the Academy Of Neuropsy Training. Or the AONT i guess. Neuropsy is the the power given to you by the test in the event of a success. The number of your level is equal to how many forms your power takes. So people who rank at level zero have ultimately failed the test, and get no power as a consequence. No one actually knows what happens after the Academy, but I can only assume after all the struggle you go through to develop your power, it should be good. I got dressed and went downstairs to see my mom.
"Today's the big day huh?" She said, tears obvious behind her eyes, knowing it could be the last day she sees me. (Unless of course, I fail the test)
"Yeah, guess it is... I'll miss you after today, mom." I said, getting a little teary eyed myself.
"I will too, honey." She said, walking up to me and giving me a hug. We then sat down for breakfast, which was cinnamon rolls, my favorite. It was a good last meal sorta thing, even though it wasn't really my last meal. I finished my meal as slowly as possible, so I could relish in the childhood memories I had here. Being so innocent as a little kid. Being around my mom. The house I was in was so sentimental for me. I was really going to miss it. I at least tried to look on the bright side. Being given a superhuman power wasn't necessarily terrible.
