Harry's POV:
I jogged back to the shop in the rain. It is a long way, but the adrenaline kept me going strong.
I can't believe Jillian would lie about that. She played it well too.
I walked up to the porch and opened the store doors. My uncle was sitting behind the counter reading a paper when he looked up. I slammed my hands down on the corner and he sat up straight, setting the paper down.
"Everything go okay?" He asked and I growled.
"Thanks to you, no," I said and I stood up, running my fingers through my hair.
"Me?"
"Yes fucking you," I shouted and he frowned. "You told her my name was Harry and she caught on!" I yelled and he stood up.
"Harry, she doesn't know anything. She isn't educated with the current world, I can tell." My uncle was trying hard to calm me down, but I was pissed.
"I just fucking want out," I yelled and he let me get it out. "I DONT DESERVE THIS!" I screamed and knocked down a few empty boxes.
I ran out the back and went into my own truck. I always left the doors unlocked so I could hop right in.
I sat in the car for probably an hour without even noticing. Soon enough it was 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
I got out and headed back inside of the store. I grabbed the keys from my uncle, which he already had dangling in his hands. He smiled when I did so but I just snorted and walked away. I opened the storage room and began to stock up the shelves.
Caroline's POV:
I drove down to the restaurant. I was a little upset with what happened with Harry, but then again I wasn't here to make friends.
I drove just fine, I was careful and I seemed to just glide along. I pulled up into the parking space, which was almost over flowing.
When I walked up it was still about 3:50 so the woman had a bright smile on her face that I had talked to earlier.
"Hi there!" She said across the room and I waved to her with a big smile.
She walked over and had a little box in her hand. "Now you see," she said and looked me in the eyes, "we are a very... very small town, and we are so glad to have a new person aboard. There are more tourists on the daily than people who actually liver here," she said and I nodded in agreement. "So if you really want this job, tell me now."
"Yes!" I beamed and she smiled at me, handing me the box.
"The bathrooms are that way and the first door on the right," she said pointing.
"Okay, thank you," I said and I ran over to them.
I opened the box at the sink. There was a light green shirt with the restaurant logo on it. It was really cute actually. There was also a little thing that waitresses tie around their waist, I didn't know the name of it. There was a pen, and a pad of paper to take orders with, and then 2 more shirts on the bottom. Those were pink and blue.
I exchanged shirts real quick and I smiled at myself in the mirror. I was going just fine so far here. I already had a paying job.
I tied the black thing around my waist and I put the pad of paper in there along with a pen. I grabbed the box and headed back out to the woman.
"You look great!" She said and I smiled.
"I'm Jillian by the way," I said and she nodded.
"Harold came in here and beamed about you," she said and I laughed a little. "My name is Wendy," she said and I smiled. "So! Let's get started," she said.
She led me over to a table and showed me the menu. Then she showed me how to take quick notes and stuff like that. I was going to pick it up fast, I just knew it.
"All set?" She asked and I nodded. I was going to take on 2 tourists in a moment. Once they were seated I walked over.
"Hi my name is Jillian I'll be your server tonight, can I start you out with any drinks or appetizers?" I asked with a smile on my face.
That's how the night went. I asked the questions, and brought the food.
I stopped working at 12:00 that night. I made a total of $80 in tips and I was beyond happy. I headed out and the rain stopped. I was walking to my truck when I noticed it was gone. I had a little heart attack and I ran into Harold's shop.
"Harold," I breathed and he sprung up, "someone stole the truck," I started and he rolled his eyes.
"I'm sorry Jill, hang on," he said and he went out the side door. I stood there tapping my foot.
"It is around back," Harold said when he came back in.
"Thanks," I said going out back.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I noticed there was a garage behind there. The truck was backed in and someone was leaning over it, playing with stuff under the hood.
I think he heard me walking before because he called out to me. "I won't bite," he said so I came up closer.
"What are you doing?" I asked and he turned around. Harry was wearing a mechanics uniform, the blue with the little name tag in red letters. His hair was pulled back in a headband too, kinda cute.
"Fixing your truck," he said nonchalantly.
"Well I have to get home," I said and he nodded.
I stood there in silence for about 5 minutes before I said something. I walked by the passenger door so he could see me if he glanced up, which he did.
"The pier huh?" He asked and I nodded.
"I have to make money."
"Could have just taken a bunch from me," he said grinning.
I shook my head. "You actually freaked me out earlier," I said and he stood up. "I don't know what you were talking about. I still don't."
"What do you mean Jillian? You're not that isolated," he started and I put my hand up, looking away.
"You don't know," I said and he nodded a little. I slowly put my hand down and I wiped the tear that started to escape.
Harry set his tools down and walked over to me. I had my hand covering my face but he pulled it down. "Don't cry," he said and I shook my head. I was so upset suddenly that I couldn't control myself. "Jillian," he said softly and I looked up. "I'm sorry, I just.. I don't know what happened," he said and I nodded.
Then he took me by surprise with bringing me into his arms. He hugged me tight and I hugged him back.
"We both have big secrets I guess," he said and I smiled a little.
"I guess so," I said and we pulled back. He grinned at me and then he finished what he was doing with me sitting on his stool. We talked about Wendy and Harold, and how they used to date but decided not to take it any farther. It was fun talking to Harry, i liked it.
When he was done he looked up at me. "All set," he said and he tossed me the keys.
I smiled and caught the keys. "Thanks," I said and he winked at me.
"Anytime."
