Romans...

We’d been travelling for a few days now and we were nearing San Francisco, we were halfway there. We came across about three monsters every single day, if we were lucky. It was now about three o’clock and we’d started walking two hours ago. We walked through the dense forest ,every now and then helping Monday or Amy up, they kept on tripping over tree roots because they had slow reflexes. After taking care of Amy, and healing her now bleeding knees, for the fifth time I turned to the rest. ‘Maybe we should take a little break.’ I said while plopping down on the forest ground and leaning back against a tree. I sighed deeply and Amy sat down next to me. ‘Let’s see your knees then.’ I told her tiredly and she stretched her legs out in front of me. ‘Sucks that I can’t give you any nectar or ambrosia.’ I told her while opening my bag and looking for some herbs.

After a while we were off again. I reached for my backpack. ‘Crap.’ I muttered. I’d left it behind. How in the world could I be so stupid to leave my backpack behind. ‘I’m going back.’ I told them. ‘Be right back. I’ll catch up with you guys in a few. ‘ I added before running back.

When I reached the place we’d been before we started searching. Just as I found it and swung it on my back, I heard voices. Unfamiliar voices. My head snapped up and I looked in the direction the voices came from. I slowly moved backwards my hand finding my dagger which was safely attached to my belt. Then they appeared. In front of me were two boys and a girl, probably my age, with purple t-shirts. The girl was wearing jeans shorts and the guys just regular jeans and sneakers. They looked threatening and immediately took out their swords when they saw me. I took another few steps back and took out my shiny dagger. I wished that I’d asked someone to come with me.

‘What do you want?’ I demanded.

‘That’s none of your business.’ The boy that stood in front of the others told me.  ‘What are you?’

I rolled my eyes. Is this guy serious? ‘Uhm, I don’t know if you noticed but, I am a girl.’ I told him pronouncing every syllable clearly. ‘Now. You,’ I said pointing my dagger at them, ‘ are going to stay right where you are, and I,’ I motioned to myself, ‘am going to leave.’ I backed away.

‘Not. So. Fast.’ Crap. Then it hit me… six will meet with others halfway… Oh, heck no! And those shirts… I remembered Steven and Adam telling me something about them. My eyes went wide I shock. Romans! I was in deep trouble. They were Romans, they were known for being aggressive and mean. They took a few steps towards me.

‘Stay back!’ I shouted at them. They didn’t seem even the slightest bit intimidated. Okay, I admit, I’m not the most scary intimidating girl ever, not at all because I seemed incredibly innocent, but still I had a dagger! ‘One more steps, and I swear to the gods that you’ll regret it.’ I hated the way my voice slightly trembled.

‘Why should we be scared of you?’ The girl asked laughing. ‘You’re not scary at all.’ She said while taking a few steps towards me, her sword still threateningly pointed at me.

‘I-I-I…’ I tried. My hands were slightly shaking and they seemed to notice because they laughed.

‘C’mon guys.’ The boy who hadn’t said a thing yet told the others. ‘Let’s just leave the girl alone, she seems a bit scared. Besides, we have to continue anyway .’ He shot me a apologizing look.

‘I am not scared!’ I lied to them angrily.

‘Eliana?’

‘Eliana, where are you?’ I heard two familiar voices call my name. I sighed. I was so relieved. I had back-up. Gabe and Elian appeared and joined my sides. ‘Who are these guys…?’ Elian asked me eying them.

‘Romans.’ I told them in a soft whisper. As if they’d practiced it, which they hadn’t, they pulled me back and stood in front of me to ‘Protect me’.

‘Now I get it!’ The girl said, she turned to the two boys she was with. ‘They are Greeks!’

‘THEY ARE WHAT!?’ Crap…

‘We, uh, have to go now.’ I said while taking a few steps. My back hit a tree and I gasped when a twig scratched my skin and it started bleeding. I felt the blood slowly drip down my arm.

‘You’re not going anywhere.’ A voice said behind us and before we knew it, we were surrounded by kids in purple t-shirts. They were holding our friends by their arms. Atalanta, Steven and Adam were angrily trying to escape and Monday and Amy looked scared. ‘You’re coming with us.’
