"Dan, Danny. Daaaaannnnn," I heard a muffled voice calling my name. I groaned and rolled over in the bed, pulling the covers over me, "'M tired Phil." "Baby wake up. It's already noon and I have brunch plans with my Valentine," Phil tugged the covers off me. I blinked my eyes open and stared at him, "Valentine? Phil it's the fucking beginning of February." Phil chuckled and showed me his phone's calendar. I squinted at the brightness of the phone. "See? It is the fourteenth silly," Phil pulled his phone away. I pushed myself off the bed and onto my feet. Phil planted a kiss on my cheek, "Go get changed and meet me at the front door, alright?" I nodded and sleepily wandered into the en suite. I turned on the water and stripped of my pajamas. I slipped into the shower and let the warm water wake me up. When I felt clean enough, I peeled out of the shower and dried off my hair and body. I wrapped the towel around my waist and stepped out into the bedroom. I picked through the wardrobe for a pair of black skinny jeans and stopped before picking out a shirt. "Phil! Casual or fancy?" I called out. "Casual!" Phil called back to me. I checked the temperature on my phone, ten degrees Celsius. I decided on a random black shirt under a black sweater Phil got for me.I waltzed out into the living room with my shoes on and phone in hand. Phil smiled at me, "Ready?" I nodded and walked out of the door next to him. He locked the door and we headed for outside. Phil flagged down a taxi and we got in. Phil told the driver where to go, but I didn't hear him. "So where are we going?" I poked Phil's arm. "Remember that little cafe we always used to pass buy, but was a wee bit pricey and you had to reserve a table so we never went?" Phil looked at me with a funny face. "Phil you didn't," I widened my eyes at him. Phil lips curved into a smile, "I did, yeah!" I lightly punched him in the shoulder, "Phil!!" He chuckled and his face lit up. I wasn't mad at him. In fact, I was actually excited to go to the cafe. "We're almost there so keep your cool," Phil joked. I smiled and nodded, "Totally cool right now. One-hundred percent cool." Phil shook his head at me, "You're so cool, you could be dry ice."
We made it to the cafe and Phil paid the driver. We both thanked him and wished him a good day. Phil pulled me out of the cab and onto the pavement. He brought me up to the doors of the cafe. We stepped inside and up to the hostess. "Reservations for Howell-Lester," Phil said. I chuckled at his use of our last names. The hostess grabbed two menus and led us to our table near the window. "Your waiter will be right with you," she said before going back to her spot by the door. "Howell-Lester. How creative," I teased Phil. "I try," Phil giggled. We both gazed through the menus and decided on Eggs Benedict with apple juice. "That reminds me," I exclaimed, "Did we ever decide on who is taking who's last name?" Phil thought for a moment, "We didn't actually. Do you want to talk about it now?" I shrugged, "It would make the future easier." Phil nodded in agreement with me. We were interrupted by our waiter showing up. His name tag read Jon.
"What may I get you two?" Jon asked, holding out his notepad and pen. "Two apple juices and two Eggs Benedict please," Phil answered for me. "Is that all?" Jon flashed us a smile. "For now, yeah," I replied. "Alright. I'll be right out with those drinks," Jon said before walking off. "Dan Lester sounds pretty cute," I chuckled. Phil chuckled too, "It does!" "So that was settled quite easily," I let out a yawn. "I really wasn't looking forward to a whole debate about last names," Phil leaned back. "Me neither," I leaned back as well. Jon came back and handed our drinks to us, "It'll just be a few more minutes for your food." We smiled and thanked him as he left. Phil and I made small talk as we sipped our drinks. Jon came back a few minutes later with two plates of food in either hand. He slid them across the table to the two of us. "Enjoy," he smiled before leaving again. I dug into my food and laughed as Phil had trouble cutting it up.
When we finished eating, we decided to take a cab over to the park we always go to. We wrapped our arms around each other to keep warm from the chilly air. "Remember when we were walking through here and Pj caught us with our arms around each other?" I snickered. Phil nodded, "I was so scared that he was a fan or something." I pushed him slightly, "Me too." We managed to walk around the entire park in silence and not even notice that we were doing it. "Did we just..." Phil looked over at me as his voice trailed off. "I think we did," I shrugged. "Want to walk home since it's pretty close?" He asked. "Alright, but you're giving me a piggy back ride halfway," I joked. Phil let go of me and turned his back to me. "Wait, Phil I was joking!" I put my hand on his back. "Oh come on Danny," Phil started to laugh, "Get on m- Wait no oh god." I started laughing too and leaned on him, "Maybe a piggy back ride was a bad idea." Phil wrapped his arm back around my waist, "Happy V-day, Dan." "Happy V-day to you too, Phil," I stuff my hand in his back pocket as we continued to walk.
