Location: Space/Earth
While things were heating up back on Earth the Historian was enjoying a well earned rest. She was in the TARDIS's massive library snuggle up in a large armchair with an open book by a blazing fire. She closed the cover of the book she had just finished and another one off of the stack of books beside her chair. Just as she was about to start it K-9 rolled in.
"Whatever you have to say forget it," the Historian said without looking up.
K-9's ears swiveled as he replied, "Deleting all complaints"
The Historian looked up in surprise, "I didn't mean actually deleted them but now that you mentioned it do continue." She went back to her book as K-9 finished and then rolled back into the console room. There was a few minutes of peaceful silence with the only noise being the pages turning and the flames crackling before K-9 rolled back into the library.
"Now what?" the Historian snapped at him.
"There is a distress signal coming from the planet Earth, Mistress," K-9 replied.
"Really? What kind of distress signal?" she asked, looking up from her book in interest.
"It registers as an Ice Warrior escape capsule."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive, Mistress"
"Well," she said jumping up from her chair, "we had better go check it out. What are the coordinates?"
"4..."
"Wait don't tell me," she cut him off. "You just enter them so I don't miss ," she called over her shoulder as she walked to the console room. Once she got there she made sure everything was in order so they wouldn't end up in a supernova or somewhere else equally unpleasant. K-9 rolled in just as she finished all the routine checks and a couple of extra ones just in case, you can never be to careful.
"Okay K-9 do your thing." K-9 rolled the fast few inches to the console and connected himself up.
"Coordinates transferred, Mistress," K-9 informed her as the time rotor started moving.
"Good, good," she said moving off to get a couple of things together before they landed. She grabbed her sonic screwdriver, a handheld scanner, and her physic paper. She stuffed them and various other bits and bobs into her voluminous pockets. By the time she had everything gathered the time rotor had stopped moving, signaling their arrival.
"We've landed," the Historian said, rather stating the obvious. "Come on K-9, lets go and see what we can find." K-9 obediently followed the Historian out of the TARDIS. "I think we should check out that camp in the distance. What do you think K-9?" she asked the metal dog.
"Advise caution, Mistress. They may be hostile," K-9 warned.
"Oh, nonsense K-9. Absolute nonsense. K-9 why do you always have to be so negative? Don't answer that," she said cutting him off before he could reply.
The Historian slowly picked her way through the rocks to the camp, carrying K-9 most of the way. He was not built for climbing over rocks. The Historian had always planned to fix that by installing some kind of anit-grav unit but she, ironically, never quite found the time. The closer she got to the camp the less rocky the ground was until she could put K-9 down and he could manage quite well.
She headed towards the nearest tent, which just happened to be the equipment tent. Hearing voices, she ducked behind some crates that were stacked by the entrance. She peered over the top to see a Ice Warrior standing in the tent's opening. She could also hear at least two different human voices coming from inside.
"K-9," she whispered, "could you stun an Ice Warrior?"
"Affirmative, Mistress."
"Okay, then on my signal." She stood up accidentally knocking some of the crates over.
"What was that," the Ice Warrior rasped, spinning around.
"Ah, sorry that would be me. Hello there," the Historian replied waving. "K-9 stun him," she whispered. K-9 complied and the Ice Warrior dropped like a stone. "So who are and why was the Ice Warrior after you?" the Historian asked the stunned teenagers.
