I was restless that night and woke several times. What I didn't understand though was that I felt as though a pressure was building on my chest - as though someone was compressing it. I could have sworn that someone was in the hall with me, breathing icy breaths down my neck.
Waking in a cold sweat, a felling in my gut told me that I wasn't where I should be, nor where I began to drift off. I knew that their is sometimes a short moment of disorientation whilst on a long journey no waking in a unfamiliar place; but this was different. This wasn't what it should be. For one, the disorientation did not last a moment nor a few moments-it lasted minutes, quite possibly even, hours. Nobody came to me and nobody left. The light stayed the same dismal color and weird smells filled my senses. This room had large, menacing walls, creme, and a muffled red carpet. No windows adorned the walls and no doors stood like a giant above or in front of me.
What seemed like hours later, a secret compartment in the wall opened and a strange woman wandered through as though I was nothing. I guess I was nothing though. A small girl in a big world. That's when I heard him.
Riley shouting my name. Begging for me to open my silently woven eyes.
It was a dream. Had it been real, I have no idea what I would have done. "Alice. I mean, Rosella, we have to go. Now." He gave me a look, a look which portrayed anxiety. It even made me anxious.
"What? Why?" I could barely say it. But, before he had time to even clear his throat SHE entered the hallway, a mischievous grin on her angelic face.
"You look so worried! Haha! Your scared! Hahahahahaha!" She cackled in my face as though I were a piece of dirt which couldn't be blown away. "Oh your face is a picture! Hahahahaha! Give me your glasses. I want to have a proper look at that precious little face of yours! Haha!" She chuckled away to herself, but before I even had time to come up with a good comeback, she snatched my glasses off of my face. They were all I had left of my brother as he had picked them and now 'perfect' Alice held them by her pinkie finger.
"Hey! Give them back!" I squealed as I tried to reach up to wear they were hanging precariously on her finger.
"Yeah Alice! God your a bitch! Give them back!" Riley went right up in her face and yet still, the smile just kept on getting bigger.
"Or what? Your going to go and cry to mummy? Go then, see if I care. You won't be getting these back though!" That's when she snapped them right in front of our eyes. I could feel my jaw drop on astonishment that someone could be so cruel! Riley gave a sympathetic look my way and stared in outrage at Alice.
We didn't do this for long though as the door downstairs was suddenly knocked off its hinges as someone forced entry. Riley and Alice both looked petrified. "Alice. Your brother is here to see you darling. Come out. We know you're here." I knew who they were as realization swept across my expressionless face. They had come for me.
