It turns out I had everything to loose...
I could have sworn he kept looking at me. I could have sworn he didn't want me to know about it; every time we made eye-contact he would whip his head around and act as though nothing had just happened. Annoyed as I was about this, I carried on walking as stray bits of my corn like hair lashed out angrily at my defenseless face. Being so stupid, I had forgotten the main necessity in a girl's life-and no, it wasn't tampons or pads-a hair band. British weather was so predictable with unpredictable storms that came at any moment.
Anyway, as we meandered through the near empty streets, I began to wobble as my legs teetered this way and that. I had been walking, running and sprinting and now I was finally about to give in, unwillingly. Riley must have noticed my shaking legs as he suddenly grabbed my arm, supporting my heavy body. I could feel my face burning like a tomato with embarrassment and joy.
All of a sudden, a large whoosh of wind passed through the air, cold and glacial on my face. Being instinctive, I twisted my head around from the blistering monster of a gush and caught sight of my reflection in a shop window. Now I knew why Riley had been looking at me funny and was holding on almost too tightly to my arm.
I was a mess. Quite simply a mess.
My hair was straying all over the place, making bed hair look like the neatest thing in the world. My eyes were hidden beneath dark circles and my face was blotched from the cold. I shivered and held myself back from thinking about the mess I was in.
"I think we should set up shop somewhere for the night." he told me, in a monotone voice.
"Okay." I answered, bluntly. I didn't even have the energy to give him a better answer.
"Do you have any money at all? I have about 40 quid and that will at least buy us a room in a B&B." he said, giving the old derelict looking building across the street a look. What really caught my attention was the fact the he said A room not TWO rooms.
"I have a card but it don't have much on it. About 70. I need a phone-do you think it will have one?" I asked, not sure what he thought about my answer the first time.
"It DEFINITELY has a phone! I have used it many times! I think we both need to freshen up a bit. I'll take the floor and you can have the bed. Is that alright?" he wanted to know. If he knew that it had a phone then surely he ran away alot then? I didn't bother to ask.
"Fine by me!" I beamed. At least I was going to talk to my brother again. 7 hours was long enough without the sound of his voice-let alone 10!
As the streetlights began to glow, my heart started beating faster and faster-I was with Riley Peirson!!!!! And I was going to share a room with him!! I was FINALLY going to be able to speak to my brother about what had happened to me! Nothing could ruin this moment!
