"I'm home darling." Georgia's mother announced as she walked through their front door.
Chad, who was still working on taking the Halloween decorations down, caught the attention of the mother.
The woman grabbed her house key she had just used to open the door to threaten it at the man.
"Who are you? Why are you in my house?"
Chad laughed and put his hands out in protest.
"I'm Moira's replacement until she comes back in a couple of hours. My name is Chad." He explained politely and carried on taking down the decorations.
The mother looked bewildered but just went upstairs to see Georgia.
She barged into her room and sat on the bed.
"Hello darling." Her mother said and stroked Georgia's cheek.
Georgia hadn't woken up yet and was startled by the contact.
"Oh hi mum." She yawned and stretched her back out before sitting up.
"Are you okay? What time did you come home from your Halloween stuff." The mother asked with a casual tone.
Georgia looked at her for a moment before replying.
"Oh I came home early, I was tired. I got back at 9:30." She lied and smiled at her mother.
If her mother knew about her accidental friendship with a murderer and how she had stayed over at a practically stranger's house just to stay safe then she would be in so much trouble.
The woman didn't suspect a thing and simply kissed her forehead and stood up.
"Darling I'm catching up with an old client today- I haven't seen them in years. Will you manage on your own until the afternoon?"
Georgia knew it was more of a rhetorical question then a real one. The teenager knew that her mother had a busy schedule. Unfortunately, it was usual for her mother to constantly be out of the house. She just had to accept it.
"Yeah I'll be fine. I hope it goes well!" Georgia said, trying to convince her mother that she didn't hate being alone.
It dawned on her that Tate could try and see her. Actually, at least Chad was working, maybe if he saw Tate come he would warn her first.
The mother left the room, got changed in her own bedroom, and then left the house silently.
Georgia sighed and got back into her bed.
She stared at the ceiling for a couple of minutes until she started wailing uncontrollably.
Ghosts were real.
Her maybe only friend was a psycho.
She was alone in the world and was so desperate that she would make friends with a murderer in the first place.
Her own mother that she loved so much never cared enough to notice any problems because of how hard she had to work.
She had spoken and seen dead people.
She ha-
"Georgia are you alright?" Chad had sneaked into the room and caught her off guard and distracted her from her thoughts.
The girl was in her pyjamas and half in bed so she pulled the cover over herself.
"Oh don't worry about that- I'm gay." Chad laughed at the girl but then proceeded to worry about why she was crying so intensely.
"Oh, sorry... Chad can I talk to you? You're probably not going to be working here for more then a few hours now because Moira will come back but... can I get some crazy shit off my chest?" Georgia asked him pleadingly.
Her eyes were filled with sorrow and Chad felt he was obliged to listen.
"Go ahead. It's probably not crazy." He said.
The man was expecting some 'teenage drama' or something but what came out of her mouth shocked him.
"So I found out that ghosts are real, right? I've only just moved here and I find out that this house is haunted or something! A boy that I thought could be my friend considering I have none has just admitted to being a ruthless killer and he's probably still going to harass me into being around him, and my own mother can't even tell when there's something wrong because she has to work every day of her life because my asshole father died!" The girl ranted and looked at the man afterwards with a face of surprise.
"Oh dear, I'm sorry Chad, I didn't mean to get so angry like that," Georgia apologised.
Chad just patted her shoulder.
He didn't know what to say to her.
The truth was the he was a ghost that lived in the house full time but Moira needed a hand because Halloween was the only time ghosts are allowed to leave.
It would tear the girl to pieces if she found out who had killed Chad when he was a tenant in the house with his husband. That stupid Tate Langdon boy.
"Listen, Georgia I need to get something cleared up here. I'm trusting you to not tell your mother and to be mature." He said in a low voice.
Georgia nodded, eyes full of concern.
"I'm a ghost too. I used to live here but got killed and have been trapped ever since. I haven't been hired to work here but Moira did actually ask me to cover for her. I'm not going to be any worry to you because you and your mother and good people." Chad got off his chest.
Georgia was dumbfounded and didn't know how to reply.
So this man was a ghost too?
Maybe all ghosts weren't bad then and she wasn't in as much danger as she thought she was?
"I think you're a noble man to tell me that, Chad. I promise not to tell my mother- God knows she has too much to worry about anyway. Can I ask you for a favour though?" Georgia asked and smiled lightly.
"Yes, what is it? And thank you by the way." He replied.
Georgia stood up and looked at him eagerly.
"Can you show me the other nice ghosts if there are any? I don't want to bother them but at the same time I think if I'm living in their home I should show them some respect." Georgia said confidently after deciding they could be good people that were just unfortunate enough to pass away on the premises.
"I like you, Georgia. Follow me to the basement, lots of them are down there."
Georgia told the man to wait outside and that she would get changed to look better before she met them. Chad chuckled and said that half of them look awful so she shouldn't bother but Georgia wanted to make a good first impression for some reason.
