I watched them walking out of the Jana's room, arm in arm. Smiling. She was half limping and he was half carrying her. I suddenly had this bad feeling about them being together, alone, probably doing...stuff. I kinda wish that that was me and it could have been me if I were fast enough to help her. I don't know if I'll ever get to be close to Jana again. Elise walks up to me. Great, just who I need, I thought.

"Mikey, heyyyyy sweetie. So, you and Jana not so close anymore? I heard she got super angry when you kissed me."

"Elise, just go away, you've ruined my life enough," I said coldly

"Mikey, no need to be rude, I was doing you a favor! I know girls, she was just sooooo not into you," she chimed. I really don't believe her, Jana did tell me she liked me and Elise is probably just messing with me. " I bet Jana didn't even read the note you sent."

"Elise, just sto-wait how do you know about the notes?" It suddenly hit me. Of COURSE she wrote a note to me then Jana supposedly from each other. She was such a cruel person. She wanted to break us up

"Wh-what? Did I say note? I meant to s-say ummmm, you know I actually need to go talk to Amelie. Bye!" she ran off. I growled in frustration, there was no way I could tell Jana that Elise had written the notes...she wouldn't listen to me.

Suddenly it hit me, if I could find her note from me and my note, she could see they were in the same handwriting. And that would prove I hadn't written the note and we would be back together. I ran back to my room. I looked everywhere. Under my bed, on my desk, in my draw and finally I found it stuck to my mirror. I grabbed it and went off to explain to Jana.

Lukas, Jana, Amelie and Bongi were at the tuck shop. Lukas and Jana were sharing a packet of chips. I remember when we'd all shared a packet of  gum less than a week ago. It feels like a lifetime ago. It's hard not to like Lukas, he was one of those guys...the ones girls want to be with and guys want to be like. He was kind, funny and helpful, just like Jana. They were laughing and talking. I wished to be part of them again. I pulled myself together and walked shyly to Jana. "Hey, uhh Jana, can I have moment?" I asked.

"Yeah sure, whatever." She sounded flat. 30 seconds ago she was laughing and now she just seemed bored. When she thought I wasn't looking she gave Lukas a "please help me" look but she still followed me. "So what do we need to talk about?" When she was with me her regular cheerfulness disappeared. Today she was wearing a green tee which brought out her eyes and her hair was in a messy bun. She still had a slight limp.

"Jana, I know you don't believe me but I did not know it was Elise and I did not write a note to you. I'll prove it to you." I took out the note. "See this handwriting? Now get your note and compare the handwritings."

"Michael what are you saying?"

"Elise. Elise did it. She wrote a note to you from me and to me from you. We believed it. And she was wearing the shorts you lent her and a back hood that covered her face."

"Micha-,"

"Please, Jana. I miss you. Please, just check your note," I spluttered out. Jana looked really emotional when I said this. "Please..."

"Fine, I'll check," she said, but this time she didn't sound cold and flat, just tired and confused.
