His voice echoed, "Gabriel, come forth."
I made my way out of the line and knelt down bowing my head ,"Yes, Father."
"I have a job for you."
"And what might that be?"
"I need you to go to Earth and produce and child."
My head instantly went up, “With a human?"
"Yes."
"But Father, You know that Nephilim are forbidden, You have made that The Law Yourself!"
"Yes Gabriel I am well aware of The Law, but you must be the one to help create this child."
"Father I-"
His voice became grave and dark, "Are you refusing to follow what I have said?"
"No Father," My head went back down in response.
"Okay my child, you go as a human and you will meet a woman. She is young, only nineteen. She will be a very tall one, have long wavy brown hair, and blue eyes that shine like starlight. You will stay with this woman for two years then marry her, three months into her pregnancy you must leave. The child she will conceive will be a girl and shall be named Phoebe. This child I promise you will be a big help to us in the future."
I nodded in silence.
"Now go, Archangel Gabriel."
"Yes my Lord." and straight to Earth I went.
I decided to take one of the secret portals to Earth; I might attract too much attention coming out of the sky in broad daylight. I ended up in a rather dark alley near a plaza; I folded my large wings so they would appear as a tattoo on my back and acquired new clothes. I wore a blue polo shirt leaving the buttons unbuttoned, white jeans I had been wearing this whole time and decent white converse shoes.
I sighed and walked into the bright sun and saw many people walking around some stopped to look at me. I smiled politely at them and moved on to other parts of the plaza. I wondered around the place until I reached a bakery called 'Lilliana's Place'.
Inside there were a couple of people, at least six, and a woman about 5' 9" she had wavy milk chocolate colored hair. I was unable to see her face she was looking down at the cash register taking a customer's order When she finally looked up to thank him I saw her face and what a beautiful one it was compared to the other humans around her.
Her smile was big and filled bright white teeth. Her eyes, oh they were just as shiny as my Heavenly Father said they would be. Starlight shone through her wide blue eyes adorned by thick eyelashes. She had no traces of make up on her face, pure natural beauty. I walked in the bakery and was greeted by her.
"Hello, welcome to Lili...ana's...Place..." Her words slowed as she lifted her head to see me. I gave a big grin and the color of red rush to her cheeks. She quickly looked back down and rushed through the rest of her sentence, "MynameisAthenaandiwillbeyourcashiretoday!"
I chuckled, "Athena, what a beautiful name for such a beautiful woman."
She looked back up; her face was as red as the pure delicate roses of Heaven. This only made me laugh more.
"I um t-thank you." Athena stammered.
I ponder about what I should do next. How would I get her to leave with me?
"Can I get you anything?" Athena asked.
"Well, I've never been here before so what would you propose?"
"Um, I personally like the cinnamon rolls. They are absolutely amazing. The icing is sweet and the bread melts in your mouth, they taste like heaven," she stopped herself before she kept rambling on and her eyes shifted from me back to the cash register, "but that's just me."
"I'll have that then."
"Okay, that'll be three dollars."
Money. Something I didn't have on me. Athena must have felt my sense of urgency because she leaned in close, hesitantly, and whispered, "Hey, don't worry about it. I'll take care of it."
She pulled away. "Thank you," I said.
She smiled and pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, "I'll be back in five, you can just wait at one of the tables."
Before she turned I grabbed her wrist and knew exactly what to say, "Let me take you out, when does your, uh...shift end?"
She looked at me, shocked, "You want to take me out?"
I nodded, "Of course."
"Don't you think we should get to know each other first?"
"I suppose."
She bit her lip, oh my Lord she was so beautiful, "How about this, we can sit and talk once I get your food."
I grinned, "Deal."
She quickly turned and ran to the back.
And that's how it started. We married two years after meeting just as God foretold and my child was resting within my wife's womb. The time soon came, the time I had to leave.
We were taking our daily walk on the trail. The smell of lavender surrounded us along with constant visits from butterflies and rabbits. One little rabbit stopped at Athena's feet. She bent over, picked it up, and let it walk with us.
As we continued the wind began to pick up and I felt the pull upon my wings. My heart sunk, it was time. I had truly fallen for this woman and not the way I was suposed to. She was only to be the carrier of the message I was told to send, nothing more. The pull got stronger and I squeezed my wife's hand.
"Gabe, are you okay?" She asked
I stopped walking and she followed through.
"What's wrong?"
"Athena," I sighed, "my love, I must go."
She looked at me with a mix of confusion and worry, "Go where?"
"Back from whence I came."
I heard the worry in her voice increase,"Gabe, what are you saying?"
"Athena," I said resting my hand on her stomach, "This child is a gift from God, name her Phoebe, she will be the light of your life, she will do great things, amazing things, you must treat her well."
"Gabe...why...where are you going?" her voice cracked, tears rolled down her face.
I lifted my hand to her face and wiped her tears away, "Do not worry we will meet again."
I gave her one last kiss and moved back. I removed my shirt and just as I prepared to let my wings free Athena moved into me.
She let go of the rabbit in her hands and wrapped her arms around my waist and sobbed, "Gabriel, don't leave me I love you!"
"I also love you, I love you maybe even more than my Heavenly Father loves his children of this world"
"Your Father..?"
The wind around us blown fiercely, whispering my name.
"I must go."
I gently removed her hands from my body and pushed her back. I let my wings unfold. I heard Athena gasp; I took one last look at her. She had the look of shock and fear but also admiration on her face tears also adorned her face. I gave her a small smile and a wave goodbye before taking off into the sky.
