Veronica screamed, "Oh my God, oh my God! What did you do?"
"I-I don't know!" I stammered as the rat twitched and turned itself over. The rat didn't scurry around the table it only stared at me with its beady little black eyes and I stared back.
"Oh my gosh, Mrs. Holmes, that rat is alive!"
The tall, blond haired woman ran over to our table.
"Oh my," she gasped, "How did this happen, I thought they were all dead?"
"I don't know, she touched it and it came back to life!"
"Well," Mrs. Holmes said with her always joy filled smile remaining to seem by the situation, "I'll just take it and set it free later."
I picked up the small animal which made no effort to escape from my hands and handed it to the teacher. One thing I had noticed was the small incision I had made on the body earlier was gone. What is going on? Mrs. Holmes came back with another rat on a tray and set it on our table. I picked up the cutting knife once again, only to have it snatched away from my hand.
"Oh no, you might bring this thing back to life too." Veronica said.
I sat back and watched her dissect the animal all wrong, but there wasn't much I could do knowing it could possibly rise from the dead if I touched it.
Detention had been uneventful as always, but the best thing about it was Mr. Stevens didn't even glance at me, as if he was afraid to do it. Nolan was waiting for me in his truck still in the parking lot. When I had reached the truck the door handles they were locked. Taking a look inside, I saw that he had fallen asleep while doing his homework.
"He's so adorable when he sleeps," I said to myself.
"Aw, admiring your man?"
I looked at Naomi with annoyance, "Would you stop it, Nolan is not "my man", and everyone thinks he's baby cute while he sleeps."
I knocked on the glass to wake him up, but nothing happened. So I pounded on the glass, still nothing. Then I remembered he had given me a spare car remote so I could unlock the door if I needed to. I pulled the small device from my pocket and aimed for the unlock button until I noticed the large green alarm button right next to it. A big grin spread across my face. I pressed it. The alarm instantly went off and Nolan was quickly shaken out of his slumber. He pressed a button on his car remote and unlocked the doors. I laughed as slid into the car.
"What is wrong with you?" Nolan said in annoyance, "You could have just unlocked it yourself."
"I know," I said still smiling, "But this way is way more fun."
He rolled his eyes and put the keys in the ignition and pulled out of the parking lot.
Halfway through the drive I mentioned what happened in biology.
"You touched it and came back to life?"
"Pretty much."
"That's pretty freaky stuff, but I doubt you could have brought that rat back to life."
"Then how could this happen?"
"I don't know, do you think you have some special powers?"
"I don't know," I sighed and slipped into my own thoughts.
"You are a very special child you are." My mother said as she dressed me for the night.
I smiled, "Mommy you always say that."
"I know," she responded with a smile, "But it's true, you're my little angel."
"I can't be an angel, I don't have wings."
