Leviathan's Forest, a rather small forest at the edge of my town, a small dangerous forest. My mother told me to never go in it, more or less go near it. It's been reported people who go in never come out. Why my uncle left me here I don't know why. I looked around the environment around me it was pitch black not a light in the sky. I pulled out my phone to check the time. 3:00, why is it so dark at three? I thought to myself.
"Phoebe,'" a voice whispered with a rasp.
I felt chills go down my spine, the voice didn't sound too pleasant. Where was that voice coming from?
"Phoebe, follow the sound of my voice this will be your awakening."
The forest, that's where the voice was coming from, I can't go in there, I mustn't.
"Come, Phoebe, come."
"Who are you," I cried out, "what do you want with me?"
"Walk in to the forest Phoebe, follow my voice and come."
"No, what you want?"
"Come Phoebe," it said sternly.
And I went. Not on my own free will of course, I was being pulled in.
"Let me go, whatever you are, please just let me go." I got no response and my legs kept moving forward despite my resistance.
I even though I could not see I could feel that everything was dead around me. The trees were all dead, not a leaf on any of the branches and I could tell there was no animal life within the forest either, but there was something in there I just can't put my finger on what it is.
I suddenly stopped. I must be in the forest now, I thought. I kicked my leg out to see if I could move myself now. I could move my own legs and I'm sure I'm not that far from the entrance I could just run back, right?
"You can't leave Phoebe." The voice came back.
"Why, why can't I leave?"
"You must begin your awakening."
"What is that? What I am I supposed to d-" The rapid shuffling of the leaves interrupted me. It couldn't have been the wind, it wasn't blowing. I scanned the direction I heard it from and saw nothing.
"Spirit creature thingy what ever I am talking to could you at least tell me who said I had to be here?"
"God."
I felt a little frustrated with that answer. God seemed to be the answer to everything, but at the same time the answer to nothing. I stood alone in the forest which was as silent as death its self, well silent for at least three seconds because I heard someone crying. I turned around to find a small little girl sobbing walking towards me. I wasted no time rushing to her.
"Hey kid what's wrong?" I asked crouching down to her level.
She sniffled and look up at me, I gasped. This young child was the most adorable little girl I had ever seen, well as much as I could possibly see in the darkness. She had small white shoes and a yellow dress on that was now covered in dirt and her blue eyes glimmered through the few tears still coming out of her eyes.
"Mommy."
"What?"
"Do you know where my mommy is?"
"No I don't, did something happen to her?"
"I don't know what happened to her!" She bawled.
In quickly pulled her in and attempted to calm her down, "it's okay, just calm down we'll find your mother."
I let the little girl cry on my shoulder until she was done, once she was quite she asked me a strange question, "Are you an angel?"
"What?" I said in surprise, why would she ask me such a question?
"My mommy told me that angels come in people's times of needs, and you were here when I needed you."
I smiled at her, "Sadly no, I am not an angel."
"Could you be my angel, please?"
"Yes, yes I can be your angel, now let's go find your mom, okay?"
She nodded and put her little hands in mine and we walked deeper into the forest. As we walked learned more about the child. Her name was Angela, she's four years old, soon to be five, she loves cake and candy but not with ice cream (she said it's too sweet), and she wants to be a princess because her mom told her she could grow up to be whoever she wanted to be.
"What about your father?"
"Mommy said he's gone, but he'll come back someday."
Just like me, I thought."
"Do you have a daddy?" she asked.
"Well, I'm just like you."
"Your daddy is gone too?"
"Yeah, but-" I was cut off by Angela's shriek.
"What, what's wrong?" I said panicking
"It burns!" she sobbed while pointing to her feet.
The stuff glowed green, whatever it was... With no time to question where the stuff came from I quickly bent down, avoiding the puddle of the green acid stuff, and pulled off her now melting shoe. Angela fell back to the ground with a small thud and began to scream and cry even more. Her shoes couldn't have touched the acid like gunk any longer than at least three seconds, but I had never seen any burn this bad ever before. There was a hole in her foot and I almost threw up looking at it.
"Make it stop!" She screamed, "It hurts!"
I didn't know what to do, here was this little girl in unimaginable pain and I here I am feeling helpless. Then I remembered the rat, I remembered bring it back to life. If I could do that then I must be able to heal her. I wrapped my hands around her foot, closed my eyes, and felt a force focusing around it. Angela's cry's reduced to a quiet little sobs and then to sniffles, I opened my eyes to see the gaping hole was gone and her foot was whole again.
I gave her a reinsuring smile and engulfed her into my arms, "I promise I won't let anything hurt you again."
