"Well Phoebe," the doctor said sighing, "We couldn't find anything within your body that could have caused such a problem, especially since you said you were not physically attacked."
I guess you could say I was physically attacked, but it all happened in a dream, so would it be considered a mental attack?
"So will she be okay?" My mother asked.
"Ah, yes whatever it was it healed fairly quickly. We'll keep her here overnight so we can do some tests and let her rest."
She gave the doctor a grateful nod and he left the room.
My mom spoke at the side of my bed, "I was so scared, Phoebe, I thought was going to lose you too."
I looked down at her as she cried by my side. I sat back of the fluffy pillow I provided with and thought.
Was my dream a reality and if it wasn't what was it? And the winged man, who was he?
I replayed the scene in my head.
'I don't believe in second chances.'
That voice was familiar, but whose was it? The presence of the creature felt dark, but also had recognizable warmth to it. It's one I have known my whole life but I can't seem to remember where I've felt it... I only kept asking myself questions that I knew wouldn't be answered and drifted off to sleep.
My eyes fluttered open. I awoke in a room dimly lit by candles. I sat up in the king sized bed to see where I was. The bed had sheets around me that were dark and a black veil around it. The bed itself was covered in black feathers.
"Where am I?" I mumbled to myself as I moved to pull the veil back.
"In my sanctuary."
I turned my head to face someone's bare chest.
My eyes moved up from the man's chest to his face. I couldn't see it. His eyes were covered with a mop a dark and wavy hair. The man removed the veil completely making the barrier between us nonexistent. Though I could not see his face he was beautiful. The artist that created him made sure every angle was chiseled perfectly, every flaw chipped away.
His smooth hands slipped under my chin and tilted it up.
"You're such a beautiful girl," he said examining me, then he sighed, let his fingers fall, and turned away from me. "It's a shame I can't have you."
When he turned I saw a pair of black wings coming from his back. He was the guy in my last dream.
"What do you want with me?"
He turned back around and smiled at me, "It's not what I want it's what he wants."
"He, who is that?"
"Well," the winged man said hoping onto the bed, "None other than Dominus de Inferos."
"Domo-nis- what, who is that?"
"Dominus de Inferos," he enunciated slowly so I could understand, "its Latin for 'Master of the Underworld'."
"Master of the Underworld..." I said letting the words play on my lips. What kind of messed up dream am I having?
"Oh, this dream is not like any other."
My attention went back to the man, "What do you mean, and did you just-?
"Read your mind? Yes, this is a dream walk; you remember being taken to one of the darkest spots of the underworld, don't you?"
I nodded, "How could I forget..."
"When you are within a dream walk it becomes a reality. Your physical body doesn't move, but your spiritual body does. So when your spiritual body is attacked so is your physical one. The creature that attacked you was a demon that was somehow able to walk into your dreams."
"Somehow...?"
"Usually demons aren't able to do that."
"Oh," I said with a nod. So a demon walked into my dreams and attacked me.
Realization hit me, "A demon? Demons aren't real and you, you're not real either, and this dream walk thing doesn't exist this is just a crazy dream I'm having due to the drugs the doctors gave me earlier."
He was silent for a moment and started laughing.
"What," I asked, "what's so funny?
"You, a Christian, a Child of God does not believe that angels and demons exist?"
"I-uh-well..." he did have a point.
"Do you want me to give you proof that this is real?"
I nodded.
"Take this," he said handing me a black feather that sat upon the bed, "When you wake up this feather will rest in your hand."
I examined the feather; it seemed to shine unlike any other feather I've ever seen.
"Now, wake up."
I awoke back in my hospital bed, my mother, now gone. I looked at the clock hanging on the right wall. 3:30 PM. A day had already passed and I'd be leaving soon. I sat upright and felt something shift in my hand. I lifted it up to see the shining feather. That dream and everything in it was 100% real.
I soon came back home and went straight to my room. My mom went back out to do some shopping, I was home alone. On my bed I saw a pile of notes and some homework sitting on it. I groaned and went over to exam them.
'Math and Biology test tomorrow, all of today's notes are here, Love Nolan.' The post-it note on top of the pile read.
"Aw, he drew little hearts all over it."
I looked over my shoulder to see Naomi eyeing the note.
"Yes, yes it does, but it doesn't mean anything." I said getting up to stick the note on the wall. I sat back down on my bed and started my homework.
"I never said that it meant anything," Naomi said raising one of her eyebrows Do you think it did? Do you like him
Nolan surprising took really goods notes to the point where the biology homework was practically effortless. Pulled out the trigonometry filled math packet from the pile when the doorbell rang.
I rolled of the mattress and made my way down stairs. When I reached the door I felt a warm comfortable presence near. A warmth I'd never felt before. I put my hand on the door knob and the warmth spread through me. I opened it to face a rather handsome man. He was tall and had thick, tousled dirty blond hair .
"Uh, hello, is there something you need?" I asked in confusion.
His shiny green eyes smiled at me, "Well not exactly."
"Then why are you here?"
"I have been sent to stay with you and your mother."
Sent, by whom?
"Who are you?"
He smiled, "You could say I'm your uncle, Uncle Michael."
