Mike

Me and Nancy walked through the cemetery gates and locked eyes with all the people crowding around Eleven's memorial.

"Are you going to be okay Mike? I mean, there's about 50 people here to pay tribute, are you going to be able to do your speech?" Nancy asks me as I feel more determined.

"I'll be fine, I may cry though, just warning you." I said as I walked through the crowd and stood infront of Eleven's memorial. I got the crowds attention and everyone's eyes were glued on me.

"Hello everyone! Today is one hell of a day. Today we remember Eleven, some called her El. El was a bright girl, she may have been different than the rest of us, but she was truly special to all of us. She was kind, loyal and never broke a promise." As soon as I said promise, a memory flashed into my head. Where I first told El what promises was. I took a deep breath and carried on.

"She was a friend to all of us, and never let anyone down. Me, Dustin and Lucas were privileged of knowing her on her last week, getting to know her properly, before she-" I interrupted myself by taking a deep breath, but then a tear escaped my eyes and before you know it, I was balling out tears.

"Before she left." I managed to say. I took another deep breath and wiped my eyes clean. "And I can safely say that she was one of the greatest human-beings I have ever met. And I was privileged to meet a girl like Eleven. And... I want her back. I've never wanted anyone in this world to be back from the dead because I always thought death was a part of life! But El is a massive part of my life now, she has been ever since I met her." I locked eyes with a few people in the crowd and I couldn't say no more, I had embarrassed myself enough. "Thank you." I said as I ran through the crowd. I ran as fast as I could through the cemetery until I spotted a church, I ran in there and sat on a bench inside. I got my breath back until I spotted Lucas and Dustin walking towards me.

"I'm sorry I left I-" I got interrupted by Dustin.

"Don't be sorry man, you said what you needed too." Dustin said as he sat on my left.

"That was a brave speech dude." Lucas said as I smiled a little. "Mike?"

"Yeah?" I said as Lucas and Dustin nodded at each other. Lucas sat to my right and put his hand on my shoulder.

"Mike, I know you've been acting different lately, and I don't think it's because of everything that happened. I think it's because of one thing that happened last year." Lucas said as I looked at both of them.

"We think you're in love with Eleven." Dustin said as I looked at him.

"What? No! You're craaaaazy." I said.

"Mike. We aren't stupid." Lucas said.

"We saw the way you used to look at her. Like a homeless man trying to get money. The way you treated her, you treated her like she was yours, and to be honest, I thought you two should have kissed." Dustin said as I remembered. I didn't tell them about the kiss... I turned bright red and Dustin and Lucas looked at each other.

"You kissed her didn't you?" Lucas said as I smiled, thinking about the kiss.

"Yeeeeeah." I said as Dustin started dancing.

"My ship sailed." He said as he remembered... El's gone. "Oh my god Mike... I'm so-"

"Don't Dustin. I don't want you apologising. I did what was right. I had to do it-"

"You had to kiss her?" Lucas asked as I told them exactly what happened between me and El in that cafeteria.

FLASHBACK

I took a deep breath and continued talking. "See, I was thinking, once all of this is over and Wills back and you're not a secret anymore, my parents can get you an actual bed for the basement, or you can take my room if you want since I'm down all the time there anyways. My point is, they'll take care of you. They'll be like your new parents and Nancy... She'll be like your new sister!" I said.

"Will you be like my brother?" El asks, raising an eyebrow.

"What? No! No!" I said, shaking my head.

"Why no?" El asked.

"Because... Because it's different." I said, regretting it.

"Why?" El asks again. Every word El says, I get butterflies in my stomach...

"I mean... I guess it's not, it's stupid." I said, looking at the floor. There is a bit of silence, until El broke it.

"Mike?" El said as I instantly looked up at her.

"Yeah?"

"Friends don't lie." She said as more butterflies flew all over me. That was my favourite El quote; Friends don't lie.

"Well... I was thinking... I don't know... Maybe we can go to the Snowball... Together?" I asked with a lot of pauses inbetween.

"Snowball?" She asks, of course. She doesn't know what it is. I feel stupid when it comes to El, she doesn't know anything about this world and I sometimes act like she is meant to be.

"It's this cheesy school dance, where you to the gym, dance to music and stuff. I've never been but I know you're not supposed to go with your sister." I explained as El looked even more confused than she did 30 seconds ago.

"No?" She said as I sighed a little. This is getting stressful.

"I mean... You can! But it would look really weird." I said as she nodded, still looking confused. My butterflies started going crazy, my brain told me what I needed to do. "You go to school dances with... Someone that, you know... Someone that you... Like."

"A friend?"

"Not a friend, uh... Uh..." I started to struggle on things to say as my brain kept telling me the same thing. KISS THE GIRL. KISS THE GIRL. KISS THE GIRL. "Someone like a..." I decided to follow my brain for once and I leaned in quickly and I kissed her.

It was like a quick peck, but butterflies flew all around my stomach. I pulled away as I started to blush. El looked quite surprised, but still smiled along with me. This was the best moment of my life.

PRESENT DAY

"I NEED TO GET THEM BACK TOGETHER. PRONTO." Dustin said as he pulled a tissue out his pocket and wiped his eyes.

"So... Do you love her?" Lucas asks me as I know the answer.

"More than anything on this planet."
