The uneasy feeling sat in my gut. I didn't want to look around and make it obvious. The look on Andy's face was a dead giveaway he knew something was up to. What though I didn't know.

"Something doesn't feel right." Lotus whispered to me.

"I know." I sucked up more of my drink.

Moments later Jake hurried up to us. He looked a bit on edge but gave us a smile. Draping his arms over both of our shoulders he pulled us into him slightly.

"It still on you?" He asked and I nodded. "Good, give it to me."

"No." I said without hesitation. His eyes widened.

"What do you mean, no?"His tone sounding annoyed.

Lotus stayed quiet. Her face neutral and she crossed her arms the same time I did. My partner in crime for sure. Til the day we die.

"I'm not giving it to you until we are out of here, safely. And we see the rest of the money." I kept my tone quiet and clipped. No negotiations, it was our turn to be in control.

"You read it, didn't you?" His tone accusing and he narrowed his eyes.

"No. It's your business, not ours. We're just protecting our asses." Lotus chimed in with the exact words I would've said.

"What you think I'm gonna hurt you now?" Jake asked, tightening his grip on us both. Making it a point he easily could.

"Look dude, we just met you. You're paying us far too much for a simple task and you dragged us to a sketchy and foreign part of town. So until we're safely out of here, I think we're going to keep ahold of this." I patted the hip where I'd originally put the paper. Make him think it's still there.

Jake looked between the two of us. His eyes scrutinizing. Trying to see if we'd back down perhaps? Clearly not liking that we had the upper hand in this situation.

"Fine, lets go." He said finally. His tone stern.

Chugging some of my drink, I gave CC a wave as we followed Jake. Andy had left the bar. As we made our way out, I couldn't help but try and see him one last time.

Jake led us outside. Stopping out of hearing distance from anyone, he turned to face us. I shook my head and walked past him. I heard him sigh again before his footsteps followed.

I walked until I couldn't see the bar anymore. Finding an alley that was somewhat lit from a nearby street light, I peered down it. Clear. Stepping into it, Jake and Lotus followed.

"Okay is this far enough yet?" Jake snapped. "No ones out here." Looking back, he'd spread his hands out.

The alley was quiet. I couldn't see any shapes between us and the road at the other end. Looking up, there were no fire escapes above us. I think we were good.

"I wanted to make sure we weren't followed." Jake dropped his arms and began to look around. Guess he didn't think about that. "We've had a bad feeling since you went and talked to Ashley." I saw Lotus nodding with me as she leaned against the building.

"I think we're good." Jake said. He'd changed his tone. Smart.

"Yeah, I guess. Lo can you...?" I turned my back to her and she pulled the paper out.
