And I watched her drown. I did nothing to interfere. It didn't matter anymore. We were all doomed from the start, anyway. I looked down and shook my head. That was what, five now? Only three more to go. I turned on my heel and walked away. Time to forget about her. Think about the next one. Figure out him, then the others.

"Hey!" someone called after me. "Don't you care? Don't you care that one of the people who was supposed to save us just died? You just stood there, you could have done something." It was a child, and they weren't wrong. I could have saved her. But I'm also why she died. They think I'm trustworthy. They don't know anything about me. I sighed and shook my head again, continuing to walk and ignore the boy. He couldn't do anything, so why bother with minorities. Foolish children don't matter to me anymore. But he persisted in chasing me.

"Don't you care?" he repeated. I came to a complete stop and turned to look at him in the eyes. Inhaling deeply, I responded, "Yes, I did care, once, boy. But dear God did it mess me up." He tilted his head quizzically as if he was a lost puppy. I raised my eyebrows in disapproval and walked away again.

I began to think about what to do to the next boy. It would be all over easier to just use poison, but where was the fun in that? We needed an elaborate way to dispose of the last three. First having them think that they're so much, so high and mighty, able to fight anything. Then have them meet us, one by one, ending the prophecy, and allowing chaos to envelop the world for the rest of its pathetic days.
